Vin Scully and Brent Musburger are just two names in the wave of monumental sports broadcasters to retire during 2016-17. Now, we can add Bob Costas’s name to the list as well.
Costas has been the juggernaut of Olympics coverage for NBC Sports for 12 renditions of the Games. But the celebrated television host announced his legendary run is over, as he decided to step down from his chair and is letting Mike Tirico take over.
Costas has been very forthcoming with details of the relinquishment of his Olympic broadcasting duties.
“It’s better to leave before they drop hints,” Costas told Tirico on a conference call according to USA Today. “Like, ‘Do you think it might be a good idea?’ Or, ‘Are you getting tired yet?’ Or, ‘Can we help you up the steps?’ … I didn’t want it to get to that point. So this was entirely on my terms, and I like it that way.”
Comedian and television personality Pat Tomasulo paid tribute to Costas by parodying a farewell speech while impersonating the famed broadcaster on WGN Morning News.

And there you have it, we will forever wonder if Bob Costas’s hair is real or a very well maintained toupe!
If anything, Tomasulo’s small jabs and comedic rendition of Costas showcase how well respected he his by broadcasters and fans alike.
Congrats on a legendary run Bob! Can’t wait to see what you do next!
