Manny Pacquiao The Congressman Opposes Contraception And Family Planning

The hot congressional issue in the Philippines is a controversial bill that would allow governmental support for contraceptive use and family planning. The world’s most famous congressman Manny Pacquiao has come out against the bill on religious grounds.

Pacquiao along with the Catholic Church, of which 80 percent of the population belongs to, have opposed the bill that would see the state give condoms to the poor. This is what he said on the congressional floor:

God said, ‘Go out and multiply.’ He did not say, just have two or three kids.

The father of four in a later interview continued, “It’s sinful to use condoms and commit abortion. My parents were poor… they had four children, it was very difficult but we persevered.” He was so poor growing up that his father killed the family dog.

For what it’s worth, this isn’t the case of a rich man telling poor people how to live. But is it sound advice? Pacquiao has stated that his desire is to help the millions of impoverished Filipinos he represents. It may not be logically sound to curtail contraceptive use among the poor and impoverished, but in a staunchly conservative country on these issues (divorce and abortion are still illegal), it is a popular one.

Yea, hes’s more concernced with the wishes of that old fart in Rome than he is with starving childeren and rampante poverty. And his quote from the bible shows how little he knows about Christianity. It’s a quote from the old testement. Which has no relationship to Christianity what so ever. But then I have never known a catholic who knew anything about the bible. Their primary devotion is to the pope. God comes second.

@Mezeus – based on your statement, you are as ignorant and perverse as your chosen of words. I don’t know you either but seems to me you don’t respect other people’s belief and opinion.  The least you can do is come up with your own opinion or share your beliefs like Mr. Pacquiao did.  You call yourself Christian (maybe not) but if you are true to the word of God then you should have been on Mr. Pacquiao’s side.  Then again, you might be a muslim who believe that multiplying wives (not children from 1 wife) is the key to salvation.
