Just because you start off poorly doesn’t mean you can’t turn things around. Sometimes all it takes is a roster switch-up or an off-season to re-strategize and re-group. For these five teams, they made remarkable turnarounds to finish a split or a playoff run on a high note.
The first place finisher on the list by Shot Callers Esports is Good Game University; the only team not named Team SoloMid, Counter Logic Gaming and Cloud 9 to make an NA LCS finals. The split seemed doomed from the start when their mid laner Shiphtur couldn’t join the team due to visa issues. Jintae was thrown into the starting rotation and things were rocky from the get go. GGU started 2-12 before they decided to shake up the roster. Their support ‘Bloodwater’ was replaced by ‘Daydreamin’. The seemingly minor swap led to a major turnaround as Daydreamin continually made plays on hook champions Blitzcrank and Thresh. GGU went on to finish the split 11-17 and barely squeaked into the playoffs. From there, GGU took down Dignitas and Curse enroute to the finals to face TSM. The final didn’t go their way but forcing a game 5 after barely making the playoffs was quite the accomplishment.
So going into the summer split, just because Counter Logic Gaming inevitably starts slow, watch for a turnaround that could potentially crack this list.
