Doug Martin Is Finished: Here Are Your Week 8 Injury Updates And Waiver-Wire Power Rankings
Pat Mayo (@ThePME) gives you a recap of every meaningful Week 7 injury in the NFL, then Gregg Sussman (@GreggSussman) hops on to chat about the best pickups of the week and how much of your free agent budget you should spend on each.
INJURY AMENDMENTS: It’s been revealed Doug Martin has a torn labrum, he’s done for 2013. Reggie Wayne is finished too. He tore his ACL. Jermichael Finley remains in in intensive care after suffering his head/neck injury. He’ll stay in the ICU for the foreseeable future, but will not need surgery. Don’t expect him in uniform for a long, long while.
Waiver Wire Power Rankings (with suggested FAAB Bids and time of Podcast)
RUNNING BACKS (16:22)
- Zac Stacy ($52)
- Mike James ($33)
- Andre “Juke” Ellington ($4)
- Chris Ivory ($16)
- Joseph Randle ($13)
- Roy Helu Jr. ($3)
- Brian Leonard ($0)
- Tashard Choice ($0)
Zac Stacy remains atop the list because he’s still hilariously underowned in the Fantasy community. Unfortunately, if he’s on your waiver wire you now have to break the bank to acquire his services; should have just made this move three weeks ago when he got the starting gig in St. Louis. Don’t worry about the loss of Sam Bradfordaffecting the offense – he stunk anyway – Kellen Clemens is basically a lateral move… This Doug Martin torn labrum news means you have to add Mike James immediately. He has a brutal matchup against the Panthers Thursday night, but it appears like James is going to inherit a very heavy workload in Tampa, and with the dearth of talent at RB, that has serious Fantasy value. In deep, deep, deep PPR leagues, Brian Leonard was seeing some third down work and is a very capable pass catcher… Despite his 77878687 carries against the Patriots, I’m not convinced Chris Ivory won’t swap roles with Bilal Powell next week. Ivory’s workload came out of nowhere, and seeing Rex Ryan go back to Powell next week wouldn’t be stunning. Both are untrustworthy, yet both need to be owned. Long term, I still think Powell will be the more useful Fantasy commodity, mainly due to Ivory’s crippling addiction to getting hurt… I remain steadfast in my admiration of Juke Ellington – I’m no flip flopper – and you can get him for a lot less now coming off an awful game Thursday night. Eventually, Arizona will come to the conclusion everyone else did three years ago, that Rashard Mendenhall reeks.
WIDE RECEIVERS (31:41)
- Terrance Williams ($27)
- Jarrett Boykin ($17)
- Harry Douglas ($23)
- Kendall Wright ($8)
- Jeremy Kerley ($11)
- Darrius Heyward-Bey ($6)
- Aaron Dobson ($2)
- Riley Cooper ($3)
- Kris Durham ($7)
- Mike Brown ($0)
- Cole Beasley ($0)
- LaVon Brazill ($1)
- Brandon Gibson ($2)
- Greg Little ($1)
- Nate Washington ($0)
Terrance Williams should been owned, but I see him lingering on the waiver wire in a passel of pools, and now it costs more than ever to grab him. With Miles Austin looking finished, Williams has legitimate Top 25 WR upside.Cole Beasley continues to be involved as well, a sneaky PPR add… With Jermichael Finley out for an extended period and Randall Cobb gone form the scene in Green Bay, Jarrett Boykin has the opportunity to really break through, especially in PPR formats. Even when James Jones returns, there will still be plenty of receptions to go around for all the Packers WRs…. Kendall Wright picked up 9 catches and remains perpetually underrated, and under owned. Nate Washington is more of a boom or bust, home run type flier… Kris Durham isn’t going away. At least until Nate Burleson returns… Riley Cooper clearly has talent, but has excelled more with Nick Foles thanMichael Vick, and of course, Foles won’t be starting anymore. He’s off being dizzy somewhere. Cooper’s Week 8 matchup against the Giants may be too good to pass up, though. He’s a solid bench stash/plug and play… I likeDarrius Heyward-Bey’s potential with Reggie Wayne finished for the season. DHB will definitely see more targets and Andrew Luck is good enough to inflate his stats. LaVon Brazill is a deeper upside gamble… And Mike Brownkeeps showing up in the box score every week. With so much attention – justifiably – being paid to shutting downCecil Shorts and Justin BlackMON, Brown sort of just runs around uncovered 90-percent of the game. And if there’s one thing you can count on with Jacksonville, it’s that they’ll be down and throwing.
TIGHT ENDS (8:14)
- Jordan Reed ($33)
- Coby Fleener ($12)
- Charles Clay ($2)
- Garrett Graham ($1)
- Tim Wright ($1)
- Anthony Fasano ($0)
- Rob Housler ($0)
Should have spent the money on Jordan Reed last week, now it’s going to cost you at least double his Week 7 price. Reed was excellent, more so with Robert Griffin III looking closer to full health than at any other point this season. Reed has some serious upside and should be considered in the Martellus Bennett/Antonio Gates tier at the middle/back end of the Top 10 at tight end… No Wayne mean more looks for Coby Fleener. THAT’S GOOD…Garrett Graham didn’t finish with a very productive day, but he did see 8 targets from Case Keenum, and came up just short of a touchdown. He was a hot pickup a few weeks back, and he’ll be cut loose by a lot of teams with the Texans going on bye, but he still has value at a thin position. Don’t forget about him… Ditto for Tim Wright.
None worth your time and especially your FAAB $$$
- Carolina ($8)
- Cincinnati ($4)
- New Orleans ($0)
Carolina is squaring off with a depleted Tampa team, with Mr. Turnover, Mike Glennon under center, on a super short week. As long as they don’t let Vincent Jackson make very casual deep TD catches, they’re going to be great… Cincy gets #GENOPICKS, who, in fairness, looked decent against Pats. He still loves picks, however… A beat up Bills team traveling to the Bayou? I’d gamble against them if I’m in a pinch. The Saints D/ST is almost universally available.
