Bubba Watson Wins The Masters With An Unbelievable Hooked Wedge

Bubba Watson won the Masters in a playoff with Louis Oosthuizen, getting there largely due to birdies on 4 of his last 6 holes. Rarely has a man so happy to win looked so emotional. Watch his sensational approach shot after the jump.

He wasn’t leading this tournament going into the final round, that honor belonged to Sweden’s Peter Hanson, who was paired in the final round with 3 time winner Phil Mickelson. Neither player managed to do much of anything, with Mickelson shooting even par and Hanson one over. That opened the door for others, and Oosthuizen took the early advantage with a double-eagle at the 2nd hole. As the day ran on, players like Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter charged up the leaderboard, along with local favorite and Georgia kid Matt Kuchar. Watson made a late run with 4 consecutive birdies from holes 13-16, and he and Oosthuizen were headed to a playoff.

Bubba hits the ball a long way. A ludicrously long way. Which makes his second shots easier than most other golfer’s approaches. Sometimes it gets him into trouble, as it did on the 2nd playoff hole, the 10th hole at Augusta National. Bubba ended up in the trees, with no direct shot at the green. With Oosthuizen having come up short of the green, and another long drive leaving Watson just 155 yds to the center of the green, he decided to pull a rabbit out of his hat:

Although Matt Kuchar was the local favorite, Bubba was a Georgia Bulldog and you know that counts for a whole lot in the state of Georgia. The victory lap in the General Lee is going to kick some serious ass…
