Your Daily Reminder That Golf Can Make Pros Look Like They’ve Never Played In Their Lives
If you’ve ever been golfing – hell, if you’ve ever been mini-golfing, or even just watched enough golf on TV – you know a thing or two about the psychological damage the sport can inflict. (Don’t believe us? See here.) What golf lacks in physical exertion, it more than makes up for in mental strain. You’re alone out there, and that knowledge can weigh on you even when attempting the simplest of shots – the kind you’ve been making without an issue for years and years.
That latest unfortunate soul to demonstrate just how hard golf is, even when you’ve successfully devoted your life to becoming one of the very best in the world at it: Charl Schwartzel. Schwartzel had a rough round yesterday at the Deutsche Bank Championship, double bogeying three of his final five holes on the way to an eight-over 79. But it was that last double that stung the most – because it should have been a birdie. As you watch below, remember that Schwartzel has made millions of dollars playing golf, is a top-25 player worldwide, and won the damn Masters just last year:
Experiment: take your average golfer. We don’t mean average pro golfer: we mean someone who likes to hit the local links after work every now and again. Have them try to make the exact putt Schwartzel started out with there. There’s a good chance they wouldn’t be able to miss three times from that distance even if they tried, but a Masters champion did it. Can any other sport make someone that good look that bad? Well, maybe.
