Ernie Els Wins The British Open After Adam Scott Misses A 10-Foot Putt To Force A Playoff

Adam Scott held a four-shot lead after the third round of The Open Championship, bogeying a total of four holes over the first 54. Well, day four went horribly wrong as Scott choked down the stretch. Still, he had a chance to force a playoff on 18 with a 10-foot par putt after bogeying the 15th, 16th, and 17th holes, but it slid left of the cup. Here’s the gut-wrenching miss:

Els put the pressure on Scott after sinking a birdie on 18 to bring him to -7. But Scott couldn’t deliver, and Els has now won a major golf tournament in three different decades, including the US Open in 1994 and 1997 and the British once before in 2002.
