Mickelson Misses Cut At Colonial, Not Our #1 Golfer For Long?
A couple days ago we made a big deal of how Phil Mickelson was the #1 golfer on our Power Grid, rather than that other guy. Today, he missed the cut at the Colonial, thereby also missing his chance to claim the world No. 1 ranking. Whoops.
It was a miserable day for Mickelson, who posted a 3-over-par 73 in ideal playing conditions. He was at a loss to explain what happened:
“I played terrible. I don’t know what to say. The course was in great shape, there was no wind and there were a lot of birdies out there, and I just played terrible.”
The Colonial is the site of the “Pink Out,” in which participants wore pinkin a show of solidarity with Mickelson and his wife, Amy, who was diagnosed with the disease shortly before the tournament. (Mickelson withdrew from the tournament after the diagnosis.) The tournament will hold another Pink Out tomorrow; unfortunately, Mickelson again won’t be around, albeit for a much less serious reason.
We have to wonder if Mickelson will not only lose his shot at #1 in the world, but his #1 ranking on the Power Grid. We suspected his hold on the spot was tenuous, although we didn’t quite expect his ranking to be in peril this soon. We might even say we jinxed him, but we’ll let Michael Kay explain why that’s not the case.
