Today In “Holy Crap”: 17-Year-Old Golfer Shoots 57

Yeah, sure, Alabama’s football recruiting is good and everything, but today, their most impressive incoming athlete became a golfer.

Bobby Wyatt, a 17-year-old junior golf champion headed to Tuscaloosa on a golf scholarship in the fall, shot a 14-under 57 today in the second round of Alabama’s Junior Championship.

For some context, here’s a list of players who’ve recorded a lower score in a competitive round of golf than Wyatt did today:

1) Nobody

That’s right, it appears Wyatt shot the lowest round in competitive golf history – at least according to the Guinness book. Honestly, the score is so absurd it doesn’t even seem real. Just breaking 60 is mythical – breaking it so comfortably doesn’t even seem like it should be possible.

The performance gave him a nine-stroke lead with one round to go in the 54-hole tournament, one Wyatt’s won three years running. And let’s face it: he’s in awfully good shape to four-peat after a round like that.

So congrats to Bobby Wyatt, and the Crimson Tide – you’re getting a good one.

H/T Stewart Cink. We almost forgive you for beating Tom Watson last year now. Almost.
