10 Fantastic Chicago Sports T-Shirts
by SportsGrid Store | 4:22 pm, August 16th, 2012
Chicago has a rich and storied sports history. Some of it is dominant (thanks, Michael Jordan!), some of it is controversial (thanks, Steve Bartman!), and some of it is mustachioed (thanks, Mike Ditka!). All of it, though, is memorable, and it’s what makes the Chi one of the most important sports cities in America.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding sections to our store dedicated solely to America’s best sports towns. To kick things off, we went Windy, and humbly bring you 10 t-shirts celebrating Chicago sports, all available for $20 each in the store. So if you want to pledge your allegiance to Ron Santo, or you want to commemorate Disco Demolition night at Comiskey, or if the Second City is simply first in your heart, you may find some of our new tees pretty cool.

1. The 1908 Tee
You don't come across a lot of serenity in sports. No matter how deserved a championship might seem, no matter how many demons are exorcized by victory, fans are always gripped by samsara (look it up, bruh), back to craving hardware and confetti in the off-season. The exception, of course, can be found in Chicago, where Cubs fans manage to just enjoy their team. [Available here]
2. The Disco Demolition Tee
There are people out there who will tell you that Disco Demolition Night represented a particularly ugly moment in American pop culture, a kind of gross blue-collar bully rally that was kind of a disaster. And that's true. But it's much more fun to close your eyes and imagine a outfield filled with Disco Duck records that have been blown to vinyl smithereens. [Available here]
3. The Ditka Tee
He can make Uggs seem manly. He became the greatest politician in the history of Illinois that never ran for office. His mustache has its own insurance policy. Ditka is, without a doubt, the most interesting man in the world. [Available here]
4. The Chicago Championship Coaches Tee
As you’re no doubt aware, the Chicago city flag consists of two blue stripes and four six-pointed red stars, which represent Fort Dearborn, the Great Chicago fire, the World’s Columbian Exposition, and the Century of Progress. Iconic places and moments to be sure, but wouldn't it be better if someone just replaced em with Ditka, Jackson, Ozzie, and Quenneville? [Available here]
5. The Chi Script Tee
It's not every day that you can find a nickname or term that works for every single team's fans, but if you rep Chicago, then you rep the Chi. [Available here]
6. The Ron Santo Tee
Every sports team has its legends and its icons, its retired jerseys and its record holders. But for Cubs fans, Ron Santo was more than that. His determination, class and spirit endeared him to Chicago long after he stopped playing at Wrigley and moved into the broadcast booth, long after his battle with diabetes cost him his legs. This year’s posthumous induction to Cooperstown just confirmed what Chicago knew already: that the man was an all-time great. [Available here]
7. The White Mamba Tee
Brian Scalabrine, b.k.a. the White Mamba, is more than just some Human Victory Cigar. He is more than the head of the Bulls' Cheerleading Squad. He is a stick of dynamite! When he gets up off the bench, the United Center sizzles. When those warm-ups come off, it sets the Chicago faithful trembling. And when he comes into the game, this happens. Feel that power and energy radiate out to those around you every time you don this most excellent shirt from Chitown Clothing. [Available here]
8. The 85 Bears Tee
Yes, there are 85. You can count for yourself. Go ahead. We’ll wait. [Available here]
9. The Blackhawks Stanley Cup Tee
It took over 50 years, but the Blackhawks finally won the Stanley Cup. And it wouldn’t have happened without everybody listed on this fine shirt. http://store.sportsgrid.com/product/the-chicago-blackhawks-stanley-cup-t-shirt">[Available here]
10. The Sunday Funday Tee
Sunday isn’t there so you can work. It isn’t there so you can play weird Christian video games. Sunday is there so you can sing “Bear Down” at the top of your lungs with your buddies, reveling in the greatest sport ever invented. It is for football, dag blast it, and this shirt will remind you of that forever. [Available here]
