A Local Brothel Sponsors A German Hockey Team, Might Be Best Sponsor Ever
The fellas over at Puck Daddy have the details on this one, in which the Landshut Cannibals, a team in the 2nd Eishockey-Bundesliga (Germany’s second tier hockey league), have decided to boost publicity by sexing up their sponsors. Or are their sponsors sexing them? It’s hard to tell.
Lustra, a brothel, is the team’s newest sponsor and has their logo right smack in the middle of the Cannibals’ warmup jersey, as you can see above. We’ll let you figure out which logo is theirs and which belongs to the team.
Yep, you got it. The lips belong to the brothel. You might have also noticed the text above the lips, which reads “the world could be so sexy.” Puck Daddy, however, believes the “so” is actually a “this,” but we won’t fight over inconsequential minutiae.
As you might imagine, other sponsors weren’t so thrilled to be associated with a brothel.
“German clothing company Wöhrl had agreed to a deal with the Cannibals just two days before Lustra’s deal was announced. They were mortified to learn they would be sharing the team with a bordello and backed out of the agreement immediately.”
The brothel maintains a close connection to the team beyond business, however.
“Peter Baumgartner, the son of the brothel’s owner, used to play for [the Cannibals]. Now he plays for the Hannover Scorpions in the first-tier.
Buamgartner isn’t ashamed of his mom’s line of work. In fact, this isn’t the first time that their careers have crossed paths. Before they were the exclusive brothel of the Landshut Cannibals, Lustra sponsored the formation of Baumgartner’s inline hockey team.”
Look at that! Sex and hockey everywhere! The team is standing by their sexy partners because business is business, morality or other objections aside.
“Furthermore, according to team spokesman Jürgen Eichbauer prostitution isn’t so bad anyway. From English-language German news site The Local:
The Cannibals had less concern about any threat to their image, said Eichbauer.
He told the Süddeutsche Zeitung, ‘The operators of the brothel are legal people who do their business honestly and pay taxes. No wild-west methods are used, and the women are not forced. Prostitution is the oldest business in the world and therefore the cooperation is not objectionable to us.’”
Now just go tell that to American lawmakers. Amirite, Lawrence Taylor?
But seriously: are players allowed to go to this brothel for pleasure? Or does business trump pleasure, even when business is pleasure?
