It Is Hot As Balls In The Olympic Dorms

The dorm-style living in Olympic village has been well-documented. So has the horn-doggedness of the athletes occupying said dorms. But apparently, whether Olympic athletes want to just take a nap in their rooms, or partake in any other “activities,” most will have to do so without the comfort of air conditioning.

According to MSN, Great Britain is only providing air conditioning in the dorms of its own athletes, despite temperatures reaching the 80′s. USA Today reported the rest of the athletes are being forced to bring in fans, much like college students in a regular dorm:

The village rooms have no air conditioning and athletes use rotating fans of the kind familiar in college dorms. Phelps said his room “is about the size of a closet. … You walk in, and I’m not joking you, my room is probably about that wide.”

So while the Brits can max and relax in their dorm rooms, the rest of the athletes are being forced to sweat it out.

Hear that, male Olympians? Lolo Jones is just lying in her bed, and broadcasting it on Twitter. But seriously, with all the miscellaneous sex forecast for the 2012 Olympic Games, having a hot room with no AC is a pretty big buzzkill. Nothing worse than trying to engage in coitus and being covered in sweat before it even begins. Looks like it’s time to make friends with Luol Deng!

…Reminds me of the Russians when they hosted the Olympics… Javelin throwers… When Soviets tossing… large  gate was opened which put strong breeze at their backs… When other countries turn… gate closed…  Stifling room can result in little sleep… Little sleep translates as extremely poor performance…  Brits should immediately shell out for room size air conditioners… Mine cost me $100.  Government should get a price break buying in bulk… If they don’t, then they will rank with the Soviets for “rigging the game…”

I think that from now on, host countries need to see that the Brits are the only ones without AC, no matter where and how hot the weather.  See how they like it!
Maybe this is a new trend that will take off….imagine, next Olympics, the host country’s athletes will be the only ones with running water…

Of course it would make far too much sense for the IOC to have actual standards to be followed by host countries when it comes to housing available to all athletes. No, that is the fair and equitable way and we don’t do things….. wait — aren’t they supposed to do things that way?

Actually, the athletes were to have their own rooms (rather than being made to share) with air conditioning. But when the government changed, standards changed , . .
