Amar’e Stoudemire’s Ridiculous Circus Shot From Last Night (Video)

Amar’e Stoudemire scored the first points for the New York Knicks last night with this deft underhanded prayer that we’ll just call the Baruchachucka. The Knicks beat the Washington Wizards, set all sorts of quirky records, and won their seventh straight game behind STAT‘s Iverson-like triple-double: 36 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 turnovers.

Da Knickerbockers have their longest win streak since the Latrell Sprewell era and Stoudemire tied Willie Nauls‘ half-century old Knicks record with his seventh straight 30+ point game while fans in Washington chanted M-V-P for him. This is really too good to be true.

When Stoudemire scored his 30th point, on a hook shot with 4:58 to play, [Spike] Lee stood up and raised both hands, clapped, then held up his left hand toward the crowd — the only exuberant Knicks fan on the row where the high rollers sit. But New York supporters were evident elsewhere throughout the Verizon Center, rolling out the “M-V-P!” chant when Stoudemire was shooting free throws a few minutes later.

Shabbat Shalom, baby! Okay, so maybe the Knicks’ only decent win in this stretch was over the Hornets–but W’s all look the same in the newspaper. And Knicks fans will take them in any and all forms.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves with the MVP talk–Derrick Rose continues to shake ‘n’ bake (his mojo so dope) with Joakim Noah in Chicago, and 2/3 of the season has yet to be played. But you can’t discount Amar’e as a legitimate candidate–or the Knicks as a more than competent team. At least on the offensive end.
