Argentina Beats Greece 2-0, Diego Maradona Humps Assistant With Joy

All of the early doubts surrounding Argentina Coach Diego Maradona are beginning to appear unwarranted. Oh, and he’s turning into the Ron Artest of the World Cup.

In Lionel Messi’s first appearance as Argentina’s Captain–and in a match in which Argentina rested seven starters–Argentina beat Greece 2-0, scoring two goals in the game’s final 13 minutes and showing the world that even Argentina’s subs are insanely skilled.  The win established Argentina as the first (and possibly only team) to win all three matches in the group stage of this year’s World Cup, and, certainly, it has positioned them as a tournament favorite moving forward.

And while the win undoubtedly gave “joy to the Argentines”–as is the purpose of Argentina’s World Cup run according to Maradona–clearly no one was happier about the victory than Maradona himself, who was seen gleefully hopping and bouncing around on Argentina’s sideline after Martin Palermo scored in the 89th minute to effectively seal Argentina’s victory.

The goal made Palermo the oldest player in World Cup history to score in a match, breaking the previously held record of Diego Maradona. Maradona, for his part, didn’t seem too perturbed by this. In fact, he seemed very excited by it.
