Splattered: Vandals Deface BP’s Olympic Billboards In London

Here at SportsGrid, we do not condone vandalism. We’re all about following the rules, obeying the law, and playing it by the book.
However, in the case of some BP billboards being vandalized near Olympic Stadium in London, we’d like to point out a few things.
First and foremost, BP has a terrible, miserable, doo-doo-face reputation. And it’s not unjustified. After the Gulf oil spill, the company’s image has been absolutely abysmal. So, it’s not like whoever the vandals went out blacking out Sports Illustrated’s featuring Kate Upton. That would be a firing-range offense.
Secondly, as Buzz Feed points out, this went down in the middle of broad daylight. Everyone basically turned the other cheek. One of those, “Oh man, don’t do it, please don’t do it, FOR GOD’S SAKE DO IT,” situations.
There’s also a bit of a paper trail the vandals left behind. Besides the giant ink blots, they also wrote the name of a website, f-ingthefuture.org.uk. The site asks people to post images of defaced BP advertisements. A little info on the siutation from the site:
BP’s green logo is plastered all over the Olympics. The company is ‘Official Fuel and Gas Provider’ and also sponsor of the Cultural Olympiad and London 2012 Festival.
Worst of all BP is ‘Sustainability Partner’. That’s right, the organisers of the Olympics have decided to allow BP, one of the dirtiest companies on earth, the opportunity to rebrand itself as socially responsible and take an active role in proposing how society should approach climate change.
So yeah, if the cops were looking at who did this, I think they’d have to look no further than the organizers of the site. Just gotta trace the photos back to who posted them. Case closed. And they would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those damn kids and their SportsGrid website.
Check out Buzz Feed for more photos of the incident.
