VIDEO: British Announcers Taken Off Air After “Women Don’t Know Offside Rule” Remarks

Andy Gray and Richard Keys, two of Britain’s top soccer announcers, were suspended on Monday after making derogatory remarks about female official Sian Massey during a match. The comments did not occur on the air.

Gray and Keys will be suspended for tonight’s “Monday Night Football” matchup between Bolton and Chelsea.

The incident occurred off-air, when the two Sky Sports announcers believed their microphones were off. Keys and Gray were heard having a conversation before the match questioning Massey’s abilities as a lineswoman. Someone recorded the conversation and sent it to Britian’s Daily Mail.

“Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her,” Keys is heard saying.

“‘Can you believe that?” Gray replied. “A female linesman. Women don’t know the offside rule.”

“Course they don’t,” Keys said. “I can guarantee you there will be a big one today. Kenny [Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish] will go potty. This isn’t the first time, is it? Didn’t we have one before?”
