British Tabloid Watch: “Shameful” English Defeated By Germany, Press Lose Minds
Jorge Larrionda’s disastrous call on Frank Lampard’s disallowed goal is, predictably, not sitting well with the British tabloid media. But although the press is spending plenty of time focusing on the controversial no-goal, they are surprisingly resigned to the fact that the Germans were clearly the better team today vs. England.
The “shameful” performance of the English, instead of the call, was more the focus today in the immediate aftermath of England’s defeat.
Here’s a quick rundown of the just-published reaction from the British tab websites. Expect a lot more sass tomorrow, when their headline writers have had proper time to watch the replay and come up with adequately sardonic headlines.
The Mirror is surprisingly, disappointingly, already up to the “acceptance” stage of the levels of grief:

The Sun, meanwhile, gets cheeky with it:

The News of the World highlights the superior play of Thomas Muller… and Simon Cowell.

And finally, the Daily Mail documents the horror of Frank Lampard’s WAG, Christine Bleakley:
