This David Stern Face Pretty Much Sums Up The State Of The Locked-Out NBA

So, great: another major pro sports league is locked out, after the NBA owners and players union failed to strike a labor deal. Such a situation is never a cause for optimism, and today’s news is being treated as every bit of the setback it is, with John Ourand of SportsBusiness Journal predicting a “long one” and NBA commissioner David Stern, while not quite talking in doomsday terms, is in his own words, “resigned to the potential damage” of the lockout.

Right now, it doesn’t appear either side is close to an agreement, so no one’s feeling too good. And it just so happens that Stern, in answering one particular question at a press conference today where he discussed the lockout, accidentally (we think, at least) summed up all the acrimony harbored by everyone on both sides of the negotiating table:

Oh, and if you’re interested in seeing the full answer to the question, here’s video, via Ben Golliver.

Hopefully we don’t lose any action like 1998-99, but right now, who knows? The league’s locked out, so the possibility is real that games could be lost. And faced with that prospect…who wouldn’t want to make a face like that?
