Unlucky ESPN Production Guy Has His Weekend Ruined Because Of This On-Air Mishap
During Saturday’s ESPN telecast of the Oklahoma City – Dallas game, there was a slight mishap when the studio guys went to sideline reporter Doris Burke. And by “slight mishap,” I mean it looked like Burke had no idea she was on TV.
Since all it takes is one flubbed line to become a viral sensation if you’re an ESPN personality, Burke was trending heavily on Twitter and Google on Saturday night into Sunday morning. As you would expect, it wasn’t the good kind of trending.
But according to USA Today, this whole thing wasn’t Burke’s fault. Nope, the pooch screwer was someone inside the production truck.
“At the last minute they decided to tape it. And like it happens in TV when you’re taping, I kept stopping.” Eventually, Burke finished her sideline report on Oklahoma City having loud fans. But, she says, the wrong one aired: “It was a simple as someone hitting the wrong button.” (Said ESPN spokesman Mike Soltys on Sunday: “We just played the wrong tape.”)
According to Burke, “someone back in Bristol” was upset with whoever hit that wrong button, so it’s safe to say that the aforementioned production person had their Saturday night ruined. Kudos to Burke, who, at least publicly, isn’t holding it against the poor soul.
