UPDATE: Fanhouse Misquotes Dwyane Wade In VERY Unfortunate Way

Plus, there’s going to be times when we lose 2-3 games in a row, and it seems like the world has crashed down. You all are going to make it seem like the World Trade is coming down again, but it’s not going to be nothing but a couple basketball games.

The use of the World Trade analogy is still questionable, but this is still not nearly as bad as it initially seemed, especially because Wade literally spelled out himself how ridiculous it was to make a comparison like that. Again, hopefully everyone can move on from this quickly. This was an unfortunate incident all around.

Yes, his real quote is not in the same stratosphere of badness as what was originally reported. In fact, it’s not bad at all. Hopefully everyone can move on quickly, with Fanhouse’s apology issued. We also apologize for being so quick to jump on Wade. He is absolutely the victim of a very unfortunate mistake.

Oh boy.

Just when Dwyane Wade was at the top of the world, when he’d helped land the best class of free agents in NBA history, he goes and says something that he cannot expect to live down for a while.

According to Tim Povtak of Fanhouse, Wade talked about how the Heat are now the hunted rather than the hunter for the upcoming NBA season. He is certainly correct about this. However, he got way too caught up in his excitement, and wound up making a comment that, to say the absolute least, could (and will) be construed as rather insensitive:

“We’re going to be wearing a bullseye. But that’s what you play for. If we lose a couple in a row this season, it will be like the World Trade (Center) is coming down again.

(Emphasis ours. Still shaking our heads.)

Honestly, this hurts even to read, as Wade couldn’t have meant any harm with the comment, but you just want to go back in time, rush up to him and covers his mouth before he says it. This is one of the most accidentally inappropriate comments we can remember, and the fact that he almost certainly didn’t mean to offend simply doesn’t make up for saying it. He’s got to know better.

In his excitement, he also seems to somewhat contradict comments he made recently about how the Lakers should be considered the team to beat, saying, “When the schedule comes out, people will be looking for the Lakers and Heat, to see when they play us.”

However, that will take a backseat to the World Trade Center reference, and rightfully so. There’s just no way to positively spin it. He will certainly take his share of criticism for it, and he will have to show some legitimate contrition – and quickly – to move on. There are some comparisons you just don’t make. As Dwyane Wade is about to find out, this is one of them.
