Floyd Mayweather Will Talk To You About Basketball, But Not Boxing
If you’re a boxing fan, you’re probably hoping to see Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao go at it in the ring. And for all we know, maybe Mayweather and Pacquiao want it to happen too (although if they really want it that badly, they’re doing a good job disguising it).
But whatever Mayweather wants, he’s making sure only he knows it. He talked to reporters at Dwyane Wade and Alonzo Mourning’s charity basketball game yesterday, but generally steered clear of boxing topics. A sampling of insights he shared into a potential bout with Pacquiao:
“I’m not interested in rushing to do anything.”
“I’m not really thinking about boxing right now.”
“Like I said, I’m just supporting my family and relaxing.”
Now that’s some boxing talk! Maybe Mayweather will only talk about the sport being played at any given event he’s attending, because he definitely talked some basketball:
“Hopefully, LeBron James has the same chemistry with the Heat that he had with the Cavaliers,” Mayweather said. “Maybe a little bit better.”
Then again, it’s possible that Mayweather really just does not want to think about boxing. Strange attitude for a potentially legendary fighter, but hey, it works for him.
And he’s not the first person to get caught up in free agent mania. Speaking of which: Floyd, if you’re really tired of the whole boxing thing, we think the Heat still have some roster room to fill. Get in touch with Riles while you can.
