Hope Solo Has A Book Coming Out Tuesday. It’s Probably Edgy.
Hope Solo has a memoir coming out on Tuesday. It’s entitled SOLO: A Memoir of Hope. It’s probably not going to all be as punny as that title, but if we know Hope Solo, it’s definitely going to be written with a razor-sharp edge.
Fresh off of earning a gold medal in London, Solo will look to capitalize on her and her team’s success with the release of this autobiography, which will surely leave no stone unturned. According to espnW, here’s the meat and potatoes of the goalie’s opus:
Solo, who was born in 1981 after her mother became pregnant during a conjugal visit with Solo’s father in prison, writes about what she calls years of her “erratic, self-destructive behavior,” about the death of her father two months before the 2007 World Cup and, most pointedly, about her subsequent benching by U.S. coach Greg Ryan before the 2007 World Cup match against Brazil, and the way she felt her teammates and coaches treated her in the aftermath.
Solo has a unique penchant for the dramatic, but by the sound of it her autobiography will go a long way towards substantiating it — at least as she sees it. And as an added bonus, Solo is releasing an e-book version exclusive epilogue she wrote during the Olympics, detailing her experience in London. It will include U.S. coach Pia Sundhage asking her to delay the book’s release until after the London Games. Bookception.
An overwhelming amount of her target practice looks like it’s headed toward former U.S. coach Greg Ryan (who benched Solo in the 2007 World Cup semis, resulting in a 4-0 loss and this post-game interview) and the women’s teams of the late 90s whose far-reaching shadow she thinks unfairly casts over the current squad (which led to these tweets).
It sounds like a worthy read to me. Sprinkle on more insight into the Olympic Village sex farm and a Body Issue nod or two and you’ve got yourself a buyer.
