Former Owner Of Seattle SuperSonics Has Fan In Sonics Gear Removed From Book Signing
When you think of the Oklahoma City Thunder, you think of the NBA’s most promising young team, the team of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. You think about their rabid fanbase, that they have one of the brightest young executives in sports running the show in GM Sam Presti, and that they’re 54-26 and possibly primed for a deep playoff run.
It’s not that you shouldn’t think about those things. The Thunder are a model franchise, for which they should be commended. But many can’t shake the thought of what the Thunder used to be – namely, the Seattle SuperSonics. That was, of course, before then-owner Howard Schultz sold the team to Oklahoma City native Clayton Bennett…who moved the team to (funny how this works) Oklahoma City.
SuperSonics fans, of course, were less than thrilled about losing their team – among them Adam Brown, who co-produced the 2009 film SonicsGate, which documented the deceit that led to the Sonics skipping town. And when Schultz (who made his money building up a certain coffee merchant) held a book signing in Issaquah, Wash. recently, Brown couldn’t resist going…wearing Sonics gear, of course.
Schultz, though, had a very easy time resisting Brown, requesting the latter be removed from the premises…and that was before Brown filmed a different book signing attendee berating Schultz for “betray[ing] the city of Seattle.” Sure enough, Brown was told to leave, despite doing nothing more than filming the signing and wearing Sonics (and, it appeared, SonicsGate) paraphernalia. Here’s what it looked like:
We’d have to guess Howard Schultz doesn’t care what Sonics fans think of him…because if their opinions of him could be any lower (and we’re not certain they could), that video probably did the trick.
