If You Shower With Your Bronze Medal You Will Probably Drop It, Break It And Get A New One

I’m sure Brazilian judoka Felipe Kitadai has led a fine life, full of success and accomplishment. The bronze medal he won in London, however, has to be his most crowning achievement. So much so that he didn’t let the pendant leave his side and took it into the shower. You can guess what happens next.

Maybe Felipe was trying to outdo Mark Cuban or something, but the joke is now on him because he proceeded to drop his bronze bling, reportedly breaking the medal’s string, preventing him from wearing it around is neck, and denting the medal itself, according to the Associated Press.

The IOC had no obligation to provide Felipe with a new medal, but the Brazilian Olympic Committee went ahead and requested a new one anyway and in fact won the appeal. To Felipe’s defense, there was no disclaimer issued or sign on his shower curtain that said he should avoid bringing his Olympic bronze medal into the shower.

However, the IOC’s logic was probably something more along the lines of, “These medals are actually worth less than five bucks, who the hell cares?”
