Introducing Our Sexier, Smarter, More Accurate Hype Index
One of the coolest features of our Power Grid – you know, that all-inclusive ranking of media hype and performance for athletes, teams and members of the media – is the Hype Index.
Whereas the Power Grid takes a person’s performance into account, the Hype Index does no such thing – it’s purely a measurement of how often someone is talked about.
Well, we’ve tweaked the formula of the Hype Index, and we can now say it’s more accurate and up-to-the-minute than it’s ever been. Whereas the old formula took into account normal Google search results, the new one only counts those that have occurred in the previous 72 hours, meaning the Hype Index rewards those who are being talked about right now. Think of it as a sort of “trending topics” for sports and sports media.
The Hype Index top 5 is displayed on the right side of SG’s home page, but you can see the full list by clicking on it at any time. Make it your go-to for staying on top of who the most talked-about people in sports are. Somebody throw a no-hitter? They move up the index. Somebody put up three touchdowns? They move up the index. Somebody rob a bank? THEY. WILL. OWN. THIS. INDEX.
