Former pro tennis star John McEnroe — whose wife is rocker Patty Smyth — picked up his own guitar and played troubadour to listeners of the Dan Patrick Show Thursday.
Strumming and singing (sort of) the Beatles‘ “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)” and Nirvana‘s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on the urging of Patrick, the normally acerbic McEnroe played the good sport as he put the host on hold and retrieved his guitar.
Not that it’s easy to play guitar while on the phone (we speak from experience) but we expected a bit better from a guy who learned how to play from Eric Clapton.
