Stephen Colbert Wonders If “There Isn’t Enough Bronze In The World” For A Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Statue

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar continued his strange movie-promoting, Staples-Center-statue-lobbying media tour yesterday with a Colbert Report appearance. Abdul-Jabbar, though, mostly stuck to promoting the movie this time around, and not for nothing, struck a more conciliatory tone when discussing the Lakers. Oh, and he still has stunningly good comic timing.

He appeared more at ease during this interview than he did on Mike and Mike, perhaps owing to the fact he’s appeared on Colbert’s show before (and been pretty damn funny in the process).

And Abdul-Jabbar didn’t even mention the statue himself – he talked only about his movie until Colbert brought the statue issue up. In addition to ruminating on the potential problem posed in this post’s title, Colbert proposed an interesting solution. Sadly, we doubt it has a chance:

“What if we made the head on Magic’s statue detachable, and then on alternate days, we just screwed your head on, and jacked it up about a foot?”

That Colbert, always thinking outside the box. For his part, Abdul-Jabbar said he’s “over it,” and that he’s had some productive talks with Laker higher-ups. Seems much different from his statement that became news just a couple days prior, when he said he was “highly offended.” Nothing a little chat with America’s ballsiest pundit can’t fix. Video of the segment below.
