Larissa Riquelme Overlooking Paraguay’s World Cup Loss, Will Run Naked Anyway

Remember Larissa Riquelme? You can see her to the left (indeed, you’re probably looking there already), and a certain promise she made about running naked through the streets if Paraguay won the World Cup had a lot of people hoping very hard that Paraguay would triumph.

Well, they didn’t, so even though Riquelme apparently softened her stance to the point that all Paraguay would have to do to prompt her run was reach the semifinal, it looked to be a no go. And then everyone was sad (except Spain). But fear not – Riquelme recently renewed her public nudity vow, saying that Paraguay’s effort was enough:

“It will be a present to all of the players, and for all the people in Paraguay to enjoy, because they tried as hard as possible and gave it their all on the field.

Honestly, she had to amend her pledge so many times that, well, doesn’t this almost feel like an insult at some point? No? I still say her “tried as hard as possible” line smacks somewhat of pure pity, almost like her run is now the equivalent of one of those participation trophies they have to give out in Little League so no one feels left out. No again? You’ll take it either way, you say?

Fine, enjoy the run that it seems was destined to happen no matter how Paraguay fared in the tournament. I guess I’m still just mad my own pledge of a naked run in the event of a U.S. win fell on deaf ears.
