LeBron Is Probably Going To Re-Sign With The Cavs

With the desired attention level of the free agent bonanza achieved, LeBron James is going to have to actually make a decision soon. And though we doubted it for a while after his playoff flameout, it looks more and more like that decision will be to stay right where he is, with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

We talked yesterday about how his early appearance at his basketball camp in Akron would at least register as a “somewhat positive” for the Cavs’ chances – partly because Christian Eyenga, the Cavs’ first-round draft pick last year who played last season in Europe, could give James an intriguing sidekick when he joins the NBA.

Then came tweets from Cavs beat writer/go-to source for LeBron info Brian Windhorst (view them here and here) with reasons why a deal with the Chicago Bulls – the team it made the most sense for LeBron to leave Cleveland for – might not happen. Windhorst also gave the Cavs credit for a fine presentation at their meeting with James.

Then there was this from SportsByBrooks, which functions mainly as a take-down of James’ attention-hogging ways, but in so doing delves into reasons they thought LeBron planned on staying all along. They include:

1) Making the meetings public…If he were to sign with Chicago, would he want to leave the impression that the deal was consummated in full view of downtown Clevelanders?

2) William Wesley (World Wide Wes) not attending the meetings was a clear sign that James had made up his mind to stay in Cleveland. Wesley was likely the source who leaked the “Big 3 to Miami” story and if James were to leave Cleveland, would’ve likely been the driving force behind such a deal.

Brooks also listed the Cavs’ hiring of Byron Scott and Chris Paul’s presence at James’ camp as signs LeBron is staying put. His World Wide Wes comment is the most intriguing, as it jives with Windhorst’s reports that perhaps his influence on this decision isn’t what people thought it was.

And so whenever LeBron makes his decision (later this week, perhaps?), we’d once again be surprised if it’s anything but staying in Cleveland. And if that’s indeed what happens, the guy deserves credit for loyalty. And regardless of where he goes, it’ll be nice to focus on his basketball-playing again.
