LeBron Makes Earlier-Than-Expected Appearance At His Akron Basketball Camp

This might mean nothing except that he wants to get his name even more in the news, but here it is: LeBron James made a surprise appearance at his Nike basketball camp in Akron today, one day earlier than expected.

It seems LeBron didn’t do much to bring attention to himself in the gym (besides, of course, be LeBron James) – he just went in and started working out on the court. According to the linked AP writeup at ESPN, Chris Paul was in attendance but not on the court at first. Later, though (courtesy of Cavs beat writer Brian Windhorst), Paul joined in on the practice fun.

At one point it didn’t appear this was possible, but maybe even LeBron James needs to clear his mind and get away from free agent madness every now and again. Promising signs for his basketball-playing future include that 1) he got to his camp early to work out at all, and 2) Windhorst said physically, LeBron looked ready to go.

Other interesting Twitter tidbits from Windhorst:

1) Via Variety, LeBron is no longer filming a movie this offseason – it was postponed until next year. Perhaps LeBron wanted to dedicate all of his focus to basketball once he chooses a team? (Smart, Kobe/Jordan-like move, if true.)

2) Christian Eyenga, the Cavs’ first-round draft pick last year (but played in Europe), worked out at the camp today – and Windhorst was impressed. One would think LeBron was, too. Hmmmmmm.

Overall, today has to register as a “somewhat positive” on the “Will LeBron re-Sign with the Cavs?-O-Meter.” He’s in Akron again, showing yet more dedication to his home state, and it sounds like he has a talented new teammate if he re-ups with Cleveland. And for Brian Windhorst, today is another banner day, as he positions himself more and more as the go-to source for LeBron James info, during the period when LeBron’s celebrity is at its peak.
