Report: ESPN Analyst Matthew Barnaby Used Racial Slurs In Threatening Calls
Ex-NHL player and current ESPN analyst Matthew Barnaby spent last Friday night locked up in Amherst, NY Police Headquarters. He’s accused of doing a string of crazy things, including visiting his former home where his estranged wife lives, trying to enter the house through the garage, verbally abusing his ex-wife, and causing property damage to a garage door.
The new information about Barnaby’s incident comes courtesy of court documents obtained by the Buffalo News.
Barnaby has been romantically linked to fellow ESPNer Michelle Beadle. According to Beadle’s Twitter page, she was in New York City at the time, most likely in preparation for the ESPN upfronts that she co-hosted with Scott Van Pelt yesterday.
In addition to some of the alarming details we learned today about the allegations against Barnaby, he’s also accused of calling a male friend of his wife’s “20-30 times” threatening harm and using racial slurs. The documents don’t reveal what racial slurs Barnaby used.
Barnaby has pleaded not guilty to five charges, including felony criminal mischief, which carries a possible prison sentence of four years. He’s due back in Amherst Court on May 18.
