Mike Tyson Visits PTI, Tells Brad Pitt Story Again, Laments The State Of Boxing

Mike Tyson continues to make the rounds promoting his upcoming Spike-Lee-directed Broadway one-man show, and today that meant checking in with Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon for (a little bit more than) Five Good Minutes on Pardon the Interruption. There was no talk about being a prostitute hunter this time around, but he told one story he’s told before with particular zest, and he also addressed a subject we don’t hear him mention that much anymore: boxing.

The story that really got a rise out of Kornheiser and Wilbon (and everyone else who watched) was one we wrote on here a couple months ago: the time he saw Brad Pitt with his ex-wife and was immediately sapped of all energy to do anything about it. We’ve all been there, seeing our exes with Brad Pitt. Traumatic experience, you know?

Oh, and if you think boxing’s gone to hell in a handbasket, fear not: Tyson’s right there with you. While he’s partial to the sport for obvious reasons and there are of course still fighters he admires, he sees what everyone else sees: boxing is getting less popular. MMA is getting more popular. Maybe the reason Tyson doesn’t talk about boxing that much these days (to our knowledge) is just because no one asks – because they think no one will really care. The whole segment is worth listening to – especially if you haven’t heard the Pitt story – but the boxing talk starts about six minutes in:

Boxing is “so 20th century now.” Yeah, sounds about right.
