L.A. Mayor Makes A Wager: If Lakers Lose, Jack Nicholson Does A Celtics Commercial

We all remember the Steelers name-change stunts when Pittsburgh mayor, Luke Ravenstahl, legally changed his name to Steelerstahl in the week proceeding their AFC Championship match-up against the Baltimore Ravens.  It worked too, as the Steelers went on to win the Super Bowl that year.  Well, mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles has upped the ante on mayor related bets, and is hoping for the same result.

He agreed to loan out everyone’s favorite Laker fan, Jack Nicholson to Boston for a commercial in full Celtics garb.  Wagers are meant to be fair, so Boston’s mayor Thomas Menino, agreed to send Boston’s own sports enthusiasts and die-hard Celtic fans, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to LA to square the pledge.

The LA Times reports:

Should the Celtics prove victorious, we will generously permit Hollywood legend and Lakers fan extraordinaire, Jack Nicholson, to don green and film a commercial touting Old North Church, the Common, and all there is to see in Boston.  Should the Lakers prevail, we will gladly accept your hometown boys, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, as spokespersons for a public service announcement extolling the virtues of the City of Los Angeles, where the climate, the beaches, and the food are far superior.

Additionally, should the Lakers fail to win, they’ll set aside a spot in the 4th quarter at Staples Center for “Gino Time!“  While the Celtics agreed to set aside the same time in their 4th quarter to replay Magic Johnson’s game winning baby hook from game 4 of the 1987 NBA Finals.”  Ouch.

There’s no word yet whether Marky Mark is putting up a stink at not being included.
