Is NBC’s Sunday Night Football Intro With Faith Hill The “Worst Intro In The History Of Television?”

Reddit user moby323 has dubbed NBC’s Sunday Night Football intro, featuring Faith Hill, as the “worst intro in the history of television.” And although we’re hesitant to say it’s “the worst in history,” (there is always something worse out there) we’ll say that NBC’s country ode to pro football is the worst intro currently on television. Here are five reasons why.

5. “Professional football and Faith Hill in tight black leather.” This should work, but it doesn’t. An attractive woman dressed provocatively is beckoning you to watch the NFL. This is a no-brainer. A slam-dunk. No amount of meddling could ruin this unruinable starting point. But ruined it is, and the fact that such an easy concept gets fumbled makes things worse.

4. This has to be a parody, but it isn’t. This 100% real NBC sports intro is remarkably similar to 30 Rock’s 100% fake NBC sports intro. This is never a good sign.

3. Why is Dwight Freeney swim-moving his way through a cornfield? Most of Sunday Night Football’s intro is dedicated to football players doing football things, set against a very identifiable backdrop from their team’s home state. In other words, shots of Adrian Peterson running across a frozen pond, and Eli Manning looking goofy in Times Square.

2. When you appeal to everyone, it’s appealing to no one. Alright, assembled East Coast TV Men. How do we capture the hearts and minds of the rest of America with this intro? With country music, that’s what. Those slack-jawed yokels will be powerless to resist. Which brings us to…

1. The song. We are not fans of the song, but you probably could’ve guessed that by this point.

So, SportsGridders, are we being overly dramatic, or is NBC’s intro really that bad? Watch the video below, then let us know what you think in the comments.

Its the same reason I don’t watch pregame shows. I don’t really care its all meaningless filler til the game starts

I still don’t understand why they took Joan Jett’s fifth or sixth most recognizable song and then literally did a song parody with it.

Faith Hill is an upgrade over Pink who sang it the first season, so I will give props for that.

They got John Williams – JOHN WILLIAMS! – to make a theme, and then basically shove that perfectly serviceable and recognizable theme aside to use chords from the intro song.

I don’t have an issue with the graphics of the intro.  ESPN’s done a much, much worse job with Monday Night Football’s intro.  “Let’s see how many musicians we can squeeze into this, combined with paint cannons and flying spaceship helmets!”

Faith Hill is nice to look at, if you have your TV on MUTE.  I hate country.  They should have let Joan Jett redo the song, again.

They should let Godsmack come up with an opening, something as hard hitting as the NFL itself.  Maybe a remake of “The Enemy”.

It’s a little over-dramatic.  I can think of much worse things, like listening to some of the idiot broadcasters and color analysts out there.  At least we only have to listen to Faith Hill for a couple of minutes, as opposed to three HOURS with the moronic announcers!

    I like it.

Godsmack – an interesting suggestion. I don’t know if the NBC suits would be cool with playing “Crying Like A Bitch” before their highest-rated show, though.

I just really hate that damn song.

Love watchibg Faith Hill Hating reading what u have to say.Probably why I don’t waste my time reading anything u write.

  • Myrarobinson

those haters should realize this promo is from the network.they chose the song and Faith for the 5th year. they feel she brings the audience.I love anything she does and I hate football but I watch it to see her.

Nothing against Faith Hill, but the song is way, way too long.  You know there’s a problem when Saturday Night Live is doing a sketch about it.  Check it out from an episode last year, with Jane Lynch pretending to be Faith Hill:

The only thing that sucks is this Article! Faith Rocks the song…hence her 5th year straight of doing this. Not only that but she is also a football fan and not just some celeb.

I LOVE IT  , LOOK FORWARD TO THE INTRO EACH GAME I’M SO GLAD SHE IS PERFORMING AGAIN SHE IS GREAT.

  • Acornwood

    Faith Hill is a jerk.

  • Ray34

Yes, intro does suck, but would be improved with a tight black MINISKIRT, instead of pants. She is hot.

I can’t stand the open..start to finish. Looks like graphics 101 photoshop. And the black latex? Not a good look for her. Country chick, looking goth, singing rock then add bad graphics and you have a disaster.  They can do sooo much better.

  • Masterofmany

Seems noone really has watched the video very closely!  at 59 sec you can tell those are not Faith Hills legs!  It is really apparent at 124 sec of video when she is crossing her legs and they disappear before your very eyes!!!!!!  Come on Man !!!!

  • Masterofmany

While I do love Faith…….Seems noone really has watched the video very closely!  at 59 sec you can tell those are not Faith Hills legs!  It is really apparent at 124 sec of video when she is crossing her legs and they disappear before your very eyes!!!!!!  Come on Man !!!!

II love the intro, how does it not work?? She sings well, is hot, and looks great. I think youre just looking for anything to complain about.

  • Stylekitty

it is all FAKE, they made her an AVITAR…It looks rediculous. I had to point out to my husband that she is a fake and not a person in front of a green screne. They could have done better.
We/He loves the song just not the FAKE GRAFICS

  • Jack

Faith Hill is awesome. It would make more sense if she were watching the game in a pair of jeans on the couch though. And the song doesn’t fit for a football theme but at least it’s not rap. They need to use a Black Sabbath type sound. That fits perfect.

how can pants that tight not show any toe???  Total rip-off!

I’ve come to the conclusion  that NBC does not give a rat’s ass about  how fans celebrate during the games. To see fans celebrate touchdowns, sacks, interceptions, turnovers, etc; is the reason why many of us love football, we love to see the 12th man scream their lungs out for their team or see the wave of white or yellow “terrible” towels being waved by the fans. We love to see the fan dressed up as a saint, a hog, a fireman, a cheesehead, a viking; well, you get the idea. The fact that NBC  never shows a glimpse of how fans celebrate really gets me upset, ex: during the final sunday night game of the regular season, Giants fans were given white flags to wave in support for their team, not once did I see a glimpse of the fans waving those flags, the same happened today with the Texans vs Bengals game as well as the Saints vs Lions. In contrary, I have never seen FOX NFL SUNDAY show this type of negligence towards the fan, when you see a game on FOX, they put alot of focus on the fan, they even provide a fan cam and at times even take their cameras to the tailgate parties. This is why I hate NBC Sunday Night Football, and quite frankly, I am disgusted that this network will be showing this year’s Super Bowl.

  • Bubba

I just posted a long ass Facebook rant on how much I absolutely loathe this intro.
Of course we all have a few retarded FB friends – who think it is ok because she is hot. These dudes somehow get off looking at her and therefore can dismiss the atrociousness of this song. They haven’t heard of porn or the Internet, I guess. Gimme sum titties then I can reconsider. Anyway, I just knew if I did a google search of “football Faith Hill bad” I would get a hit. We can only hope that she makes an Obama/ Hitler reference.

  • B Alert

Whoever thinks that this intro isnt the hottest intro NFL or NBC has put together either dosent love women or football or both… You gotta be out of your “Rabbit Ass Mind” to tell me that Faith Hill isnt SMOKIN’ in this intro for Sunday Night Football!! Like the song says,” I Been Waitin’ All Day For Sunday Night” so I can see Faith Hill bring da house down with that awesome performance EVERY SUNDAY NIGHT!!!!

NBC’s new RAP Star NFL Football Show may drive Fans to Soccer. Some guy in a throne raping is not football, it’s Hollywood Glitter at it’s worst.

Or they realize its a really poorly written song and cheesy. It sounds like a total joke and was an attempt at capturing what Hank had with Monday night football. I mean, thankfully it’s over fast so it’s not that big of a deal. But it’s written by someone who was forced to do something they have no passion to do but have to because of an obligation…

  • oboy

Well she looks good I dunno how everyone is thinking otherwise but it makes it worse cuz it stinks so bad that everyone knows they’re tryna sell sex. My goodness, its bad

  • http://twitter.com/Conservatinized J.C.

I would rather look at Faith than Joan Jett. Would rather have Hank back then that Little Fella that Raps and Glitters !

  • Annie

I don’t think it makes any difference who does the intro some one would find fault and when you’re always looking fault isn’t hard to find. Faith Hill is one of the most beautiful women there has ever been. I don’t know why there is something wrong with the way she dresses or sings the song. Y’all forgot to criticize her makeup and hair. Gods I wish I could buy you people for what you’re worth and sell you for what you think you’re worth, I could buy my own stadium and my own team and I would hire Faith Hill to sing the opening number. Do you people not have anything better to do. And might I point out that while you have a finger pointed at one of Mississippi’s own there are three pointed back at you. I am so sick of seeing this stuff . Grow up people!!!!! Especially the one who wrote this article. As much as there is to write about from poverty to people being mistreated and children starving all over the world you write an article on Faith Hills performance. Why don’t you put the spot light on the teams and the players. Draw attention to something good about them. Goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!
Find something to do with yourselves

So, you just listened to Carrie Underwood’s take on the song a few minutes ago if you’re watching tonight, so I assume you’re now missing the Faith Hill version, like everyone else with adequate hearing is.
