This Is Why New Jersey Hates ESPN’s Barry Melrose
So this morning, SportsCenter was previewing Game 3 of the Stanley Cup, and Steve Levy decided to remind the world that New Jersey hates Barry Melrose’s guts. For those of you who don’t remember, Melrose had some choice words for the city of Newark, which houses the Devils’ $375 million hockey arena. Melrose appeared on Fox News when the arena opened back in 2007, and soon after apologized for his comments. Basically, while Melrose had high marks for the Prudential Center (the Devils’ new arena), he wasn’t as high on Newark.
“Don’t go outside if you have a wallet or anything else, because the area around the arena is just horrible.”
Game 3 of the Stanley Cup is tonight at 9, with the series shifting from New Jersey to Los Angeles. While that should provide some relief for Melrose, like Levy said, we’d also like to point out Melrose was the coach of these same Kings when they appeared in and lost their only other Stanley Cup appearance in 1993. Good luck Barry, don’t expect Kings fans to welcome you with open arms.
