The Best (Or Worst) Own Goal Ever? (Video)

We’ve seen more than our fair share of funny and unfortunate blunders and own goals (heck, here’s an entry from Newcastle United’s James Perch from just 24 hours ago).

But on the all-time calamity list, this one ranks pretty high.

It comes courtesy of Vitor Hugo (not of Les Miserables and Frankenstein fame) via a Brazilian Serie B match between Hugo’s Santo Andre and Portuguesa de Desportos.

While attempting to cut off an onrushing attacker’s foray to goal, Hugo’s somewhat wayward tackle appears to do enough to set the defender off course. But sadly for him (and fortunately for us) he slips in his attempt to play the ball, and instead of getting a boot to it, well, he gets a butt to it.

The resulting carom of ball off posterior, then pitch, sends it in a delightful arc worthy of a Zinedine Zindane chip over the helpless goalkeeper.

We really hate to make Hugo the butt of too many jokes here. But we’ll be chuckling at his bottom’s blunder for a good while.
