Watch Hockey Announcer Pierre McGuire Refuse To Tell Viewers Which Hand A Player Injured

At the first intermission of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Boston Bruins hold a 1-0 lead over the Vancouver Canucks. Patrice Bergeron has the game’s only goal at this point, but Vancouver got eights shots on goal to Boston’s five, and if they continue to hold such an advantage in chances, this will remain anybody’s game. For the fans at home, like ourselves, there’s not much more we could hope for out of a Game 7 so far…except it would be nice if the announcers, you know, told us things.

We’re talking about one specific incident midway through the period, where Pierre McGuire informed us that the likely explanation for Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler having trouble handling the puck was “a severely injured hand.” So far so good. What followed was…curious.

“I won’t tell you which one, but it’s severely injured.”

Odd that he won’t tell us which hand, considering his job is to tell us things like that. Plus, isn’t the big piece of news that Edler is seriously injured, period? Why would the side of his body the hand is on matter? Do the Bruins have a mole who would relay the information back to the bench…and again, if so, wouldn’t the fact the he had an injured hand be enough information to give them a leg up? Does Pierre McGuire just like keeping secrets of moderate interest? Will we ever figure this out? No, so here’s video of the line.

I had exactly the same reaction.  Since when are reporters so coy about providing details?  Did he somehow think it would be unfair?
