Ron Artest Will Officially Become “Metta World Peace” On August 26

In case you were wondering, all it takes to legally change your name in the State of California is a public declaration printed in a local newspaper once a week for four consecutive weeks. Ron Artest discovered this firsthand, as he moved forward with his campaign to become “Metta World Peace.”

You have to admire his commitment to the cause, because on July 19th Artest’s fourth and final declaration to rebrand himself was published in the L.A. Daily Commerce. However, the name change won’t become official until August 26th, when a judge is scheduled to sign the order.

Never one to shy away from shameless self-promotion, we can’t imagine the future Mr. World Peace had any qualms about seeing his name in print four weeks in a row. One thing that isn’t so established, however, is whether the soon-to-be-former-Mrs.-Ron-Artest will be taking her no-longer-ex-husband’s surname upon their remarriage. Because given the prevailing circumstances, that would probably make the most sense.
