Russell Brand Will Soon Be A Boozy, Sexy Soccer Player
Russell Brand will eventually be coming to a theatre near you as a boozy, womanizing soccer player. The film, which has yet to be named, is based off the life of former Scotland forward Frank McAvennie. MacAvennie, aside from his goal-scoring prowess, gained a reputation for his more sensual exploits off the pitch. You could call him Scotland’s version of the Mick.
So what if Brand’s roles are all extremely similar (boozy, womanizing) –he always gets it done. And no, this film will not be like “The Big Green.”
From the Times of India:
Brand’s womanising character in the movie will be sentenced to community service and ordered to coach the local high school soccer team but friends of the star believe he will have to brush up on his sporting skills in order to make the film believable.
And these two sentences on Wikipedia pretty much confirm that this is a slam-dunk for both Brand and the world:
During his playing career he reputedly enjoyed a playboy lifestyle involving drink, drugs and a good number of women.
On 12 January 2009, McAvennie received a four month suspended sentence for affray following an incident in July 2008 in which he headbutted a man in Douglas on the Isle of Man.
Brand has certainly proved he can handle the role of a drugged out celebrity (although he is now sober) and this premise is promising for soccer and Brand fans. Maybe, finally, soccer will be accepted in America.
Or, not.
