Six Broadcasters We Need Less Of In 2011, According To Sports Illustrated

Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch released his “Media Awards for 2010″ on Tuesday, and as I usually do when this list comes out, I scanned for the negative stuff.

In addition to sections dedicated to some of the dumber things uttered by sports media personalities over the past year (Colin Cowherd was a big winner here, as was Tony Kornheiser for his Hannah Storm wardrobe critique), there was one small list at the bottom of the piece that will  bring great joy to fans of bad sports announcing.

Here is Deitsch’s list of “Six Broadcasters We Need Less Of In ’11:”

Jim Gray, Michael Irvin (Hall of Famer in this category), Craig James, Joe Morgan, Tony Siragusa, Joe Theismann.

And really, there’s very little to argue with here. Jim Gray was bad in a very conniving, sneaky way, negotiating his way into “The Decision” and just generally creeping everyone out in the process. Craig James seemed to lose a lot of fans in the way he handled his son’s controversy at Texas Tech, and it was just plain hard to like him after that. Tony Siragusa is probably my least favorite broadcaster ever (it’s literally like a random man waddled onto the field and was given a microphone).

Michael Irvin, Joe Morgan, and Joe Theissman seem to be getting lifetime achievement honors rather than doing anything particularly bad in 2010 (kind of like the way Derek Jeter won his 2010 Golden Glove, except the opposite).
