Soccer Player Who Kicked Owl Punished Too Lightly

Remember when soccer player Luis Moreno kicked a defenseless owl on the pitch, and how sad it made you (regardless of whether or not he “did it to see if the owl could fly”)? Remember how the owl later died (though not directly by his kick), and how sad that made you? Well, Moreno’s punishment came out today, and there’s a good chance it will make you sad, too.

The final tally: a two-match suspension and $560 fine. That’s it? Maybe Moreno’s not Tiger Woods or A-Rod money-wise, but well under even $1,000 for a pretty clear act of cruelty? And only two matches? Not only was it terrible to kick the owl like that, but Moreno did it on the pitch, during a match. It’s not like he kicked an owl at some park on his own time (not that that would be good, but it would be less relevant to soccer).

It might be easier to justify the punishment than the original action, but we’re still not going to try. Even if Moreno didn’t directly kill the animal, he added significantly to the stress it was already under, and brought well-deserved negative attention to his team, league, and sport in the process – and we can’t help but feel it was worth docking him a few more dollars and a few more matches. I think they should set an example with this guy.It does not matter if he did not know the owl was a good luck charm it was a living breathing creature.That beast has no right to hurt anyone or anything he should be fined as well as put on the side lines for a long time, a normal person would not hurt an innocent creature he has a serious mental problem and he should not be a role model for anyone I personally think he should be kicked in the ba*** to see how it feels.

If EVERYONE publicizes the name LUIS MORENO as an ANIMAL KILLER, and do so EVERYWHERE, he deserves the criticism and censure. Since the game official apply MINIMAL punishment, it is now up to the PUBLIC to punish this idiot. The bird was alive ALIVE when he kicked it. It might have lived if given help. I hope one day he’s on the ground one day and someone kicks him down the road. In perspective, the bird, kicked by a human is equivalent to an elepahnt kicking a man. I hope he gets kicked in the same way when he needs help. If there is a cosmic justice, Moreno must receive the same cruel treratment.

I’m glad he kicked it. Its either us or the owls, and I’ll be damned if I let those owls win. Besides, its the owl’s fault for messing up the flow of the game. It didn’t even try to get out of the way as that ball was headed for it.

I gotta agree with monkeyfeet; those owls are a serious threat to our survival. If this brave man is willing to risk foot and cleat to take one out, then that’s one less owl, and he is a hero.

Owls should have more respect for soccer. Unless it was an American owl, in which case, it’s ok. Nobody here likes soccer. Use your damn hands.

Not to mention, the world rodent population has been dwindling down, and is now at a mere eight figures. Once they go, the glue trap manufacturers will be all but out of business. Poison companies will suffer a drastic blow. The world economy may not recover.

Kill the owls while we still can; I saw a documentary recently called “Legend of the Guardians”… watch it. That’ll cure your sympathy for these ruthless creatures. They are smarter than they let on.

The person who wrote this is one step below the lowest living creature on this earth. This person as well as the football player should be made to work with sick and helpless animals for one year. They would both lean that animals ask so little but our love and affection.
One other thing that is not brought out from the news media is how that owl got out on the field in the first place. Animals, wild or domestic have no business being in that type of venue. The the lights and the noice of the crowd cause a great deal of stress. If you want an animal as a mascot then have a person dress up as one. They have the choice the animal does not.

I figure Luis “Twinkletoes” Moreno and I would be put to work in the room where they put ‘em down. Who the hell wants a sick, helpless animal? There are plenty of healthy ones out there. I personally wouldn’t mind sacrificing 100 owls if it would save the life of 1 human baby. Even if it weren’t a guarantee that the baby would be saved. Even if killing the owls had nothing to do with saving a baby, I’d do it anyway, just in case they were wrong.

On another note, somebody please link to a video of someone kicking a human baby. I’d like to comment on it.

Yes, it is animal abuse. Keep telling yourself that torturing mice will “cure a disease” or he’s “helping people.” BS. It’s profitable for animal torturers, such as your friend, (you seem like you’d enjoy torturing animals for free) but gets little results in relation to humans. In addition, there are much more reliable alternatives than torturing mice or any other animals these days. If your friend is anything like you, no doubt he enjoys torturing mice, not just the money he gets for doing it.
