Our Favorite Sports Reactions To The Supreme Court’s Obamacare Ruling

We are in the midst of a crazy news day – and what will very likely be the craziest portion occurred earlier today, when the Supreme Court handed down a ruling. That’s right: they struck it down! “It,” of course, being the Stolen Valor Act, which made it a crime to lie about receiving a medal for military service… oh? What’s that? There was another ruling this morning too? Oh, right, right, the health care thing. The court upheld the most important part of that law, the individual mandate for most to buy health insurance, as a tax. If you want to read that decision, you can do that here.

On this site, on the other hand, we’re going to look at today’s ruling a little differently – namely, through the reactions of the sports Twittersphere in the immediate aftermath of the ruling. Why are we doing this? For one, nothing is happening until the NBA Draft tonight. Seriously, for all the talk about what a packed day of news this is – and it is – the same is not true of the sports world. Also, a bunch of the reactions (to both the ruling and CNN’s initial misreporting of the ruling) were pretty funny. So here goes nothing. On the case/ruling itself:

Some kept it simple:

Obama’s response, according to us:

And as for CNN’s initial reporting misstep (for what it’s worth, Fox News also did it, but people generally chose to laugh at CNN over it), well, people talked about that, too:

You get the idea. There was one person, though, whose reaction really stood out: Sixers center Spencer Hawes. It’s been documented, but we can’t not include Hawes’ tweets, too. And they just keep getting better:

Because then the NBA season will be underway! …Oh. Right. That.

And the looks on the young minds’ faces must have been priceless. And last, in what might be the best tweet of all time:

Joke? Not a joke? Hyperbole? Hallucination? Let’s just go with: ART. And also that the individual mandate’s roots lie in the work of a conservative think tank.
