Stephen A. Smith Is Coming All Over The Place, And So Is Skip Bayless

Well, First Take was still talking about the Skip Bayless high school basketball “controversy” this morning, because hey, anything to make the show itself the center of attention. (Note: I’m not usually on the ESPN-bashing bandwagon, but First Take makes it so easy. First Take is the worst.) I noticed a few people talking about it, so against my better judgment, I tuned in.

And I was greeted with a very First Take scene – i.e. a significant amount of shouting. What started with another discussion of Bayless’ questionable representation of his own high school basketball career had turned into Jalen Rose, Bayless, and Stephen A. Smith going back and forth about criticism of athletes – what goes too far, what doesn’t. Mostly, though, it was loud. This pretty much sums it up:

Indeed he was screaming – enough that you wanted to cover your ears, or better yet, change the channel. I did that eventually, but my morbid curiosity kept me going long enough that I heard one particular Stephen A. shout that I couldn’t resist posting here. It will not give you a feel for the overall discussion/screamfest. It is merely something that sounds naughty out of context and therefore will hopefully have humor value. Because dammit, that’s all this show deserves to have posted:

Gross, man. Gross.

If you’re curious, the context was that Rose thought that sometimes Stephen A. (and Bayless, for that matter) were too tough on athletes. Stephen A. did not think anything of the sort, and (loudly) proclaimed that neither he nor Bayless would be changing their ways anytime soon. In other words, prepare for more coming shouting. Great.
