Steve Nash Was Booed At Home As A Maverick, And His Brother Laughed At Him (Video)

Steve Nash may be a two-time NBA MVP and top NBA point guard at the age of 38, but there was a time when things weren’t so peachy. We’re talking back in the beginning of his career during those Mavs days, when Nash was just a young blood in Dallas trying to find himself as a basketball player.

Last night, Nash went on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and talked in part about one fateful night during his third NBA season when his home fans let him have it with a chorus of boos every time he touched the ball. He had just signed a big contract, he had a back injury, and he was just traded from Phoenix to Dallas.

Here’s Nash with the full details:

Fans are notably fickle in their support/contempt of players, so it’s particularly amusing to know that there was a time when even Steve Nash was just some drunk guy’s vocal punching bag. Also: kudos to the brother as well for laughing his ass off. That was uplifting for Nash, it seems. And two MVPs later, we’re glad he didn’t get down on himself or anything.

Also, though it’s not a point of emphasis in the video, note the montage of Steve Nash’s hair evolution. Just fantastic (or terrible?).
