Stuart Scott Returns To SportsCenter In Midst Of Cancer Battle
Stuart Scott returned to SportsCenter last night for the first time since announcing he was diagnosed with cancer. The popular ESPN anchor appeared to be a few pounds lighter, but still seemed on top of his game.
Scott sure picked a busy night to come back. The 11pm SportsCenter usually lasts one hour, but because of the Carmelo Anthony trade, last night’s show went three hours.
Scott said from his recently-opened Twitter account: “figured 1st night at work would be an hour sportscenter..not 3 hours on set..but ALL GOOD..outpouring of support all i needed..im humbled.”
In January, he released a statement announcing he was going through his second bout with cancer in less than four years:
“There are 28 million cancer survivors worldwide,” Scott said in a statement. “You know what that means?..we’ve got a strong army!! Once again, I join the fight and like 3 years ago, I plan to beat this thing. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate everyone’s well wishes and support. I’ll be back at work soon…probably sooner than you think. I am blessed to have the invaluable support of a great team of doctors..my loving family, genuine friends, and my ESPN family.”
And he did return to work sooner than most people probably thought. It’s kind of amazing that only three weeks after that statement was released, the 45-year-0ld was already back in front of the camera. Despite reportedly going through weeks of chemotherapy, and possibly dealing with the severe fatigue that comes with it, he seemed to be his same energetic self.
As we mentioned, Scott also joined Twitter. He used his first tweet to say: “whats good. back to work 2nite after recent surgery. gotta fight cancer again..i’ll lean on u guys..u lean on me a little..we’ll beat it.”
We’re happy to see Scott back on the air. But we’re hoping it’s not too long until he makes a glorious, glorious blooper.
