Thierry Henry, He Of The Famous Irish Handball, Makes His Case For Instant Replay (Video)
by Dan Fogarty | 10:14 am, July 19th, 2010
Thierry Henry appeared on the Dan Patrick show and once again apologized to the nation of Ireland for crushing the dreams of their fans. Henry committed the handball and scored the subsequent goal that knocked Ireland out of the World Cup, and an international outrage ensued.
The apology, however, wasn’t the most interesting thing that came out of Henry’s mouth.
No, that distinction goes to his comments regarding instant replay and the World Cup. Henry told Patrick that he believes goals should be reviewed, noting that it would “only take 10 seconds.” In regards to his handball specifically, Henry said it was “not his decision,” and basically pinned the blame for the blown call on the officials working the France-Ireland qualifier.
He also refused to pick up the bar bill for the millions of Irish people who had to drown their sorrows away with the ol’ drink thanks to his handball. Classless.
Anyway, as public sentiment grows toward having instant replay in place for Brazil 2014, the pressure mounts on FIFA. Is there any way it could not be added for the next World Cup?
