Tips Box: The Attendance At The France-Uruguay Match Was Less Than Stellar

A helpful tipster sent us a picture of what appears to be a less-than-full Green Point Stadium during France and Uruguay’s World Cup match today, along with this email:

At france uruguay game and its def not sold out. My bf says maybe 1000 or 2000 seats unfilled.

Here’s the picture of what at first appears to be the crowd at a Marlins game, but is, in fact, an image of the fans attending today’s match in Cape Town:

There has to be more to this, since it’s highly unlikely a lack of interest led to so many seats being unfilled. Possibly a result of South Africa overcompensating for a perceived lack of crowd control?

Those appear to be mid-field seats, too, which makes me wonder what the corners and ends look like. Maybe a newspaper in France can shed light on the reason why since it’s clearly their fault ;-).
