Vancouver Starts Picking Up The Pieces After Last Night’s Rioting

We’ve all been ashamed of ourselves at some point or another. When we felt that way, what did we want to do? We wanted to make amends with those we felt we’d wronged, of course. And give Vancouver some credit: in the wake of not only causing extensive physical damage to, but truly embarrassing the city on a huge stage last night, some residents are stepping up to try to clean up both the literal and figurative messes.

And that’s what photographer Joshua Berson snapped a picture of this morning. Via Bruce Arthur of Canada’s National Post, here is a scene sure to lift your spirits a lot more than last night’s footage:

While we wouldn’t guess there’s much overlap between those who partook in last night’s hooliganism and those cleaning up after it today, we’d like to think at least some were disgusted by what they saw and are pitching in. And speaking of people disgusted by what they saw, some people who were sufficiently appalled set up a page where you can identify rioters. That page can be found here.

Satisfy your thirst for justice, a better Vancouver, and red-hot raging revenge: sounds good to us. As awful as the events of last night were, as damaging as they might be to Vancouver’s reputation, the aftermath certainly isn’t all bad.
