Anyone who watches this video and doesn’t see that that little kid deserved to be body slammed is a moron. This world is going to crap and the people who are willing to suspend this little boy for standing up for himself are the type of people who are at fault.

Good for him. He shouldn’t have criminal charges brought against him. Kids these days have no respect. 20 years ago everyone fought to defend themselves and no law was involved. Kids today are smartmouth little punks and should get beat up.

Casey, the big guy in red, was not the aggressor. He was set up by a pack of thugs. Notice how two older kids stepped up to intervene, though a little late. One was a tall blonde girl in a pony tail. The other was a tall guy in a white shirt, who was part of the pack. At the end and you’ll see him following Casey as he walked away. This could have ended much worse. The attacker’s head could have hit that ledge instead of his leg. The attacker should have been suspended, not just Casey, and so should his buddies who staged this fight, including the one behind the camera. And what about those two girls who just stood watching, one of them laughed. They, too, should have been suspended. All the parties were participants if they didn’t intervene.

That would have been a good thing if the attackers head hit. All it would have done was got rid of a future criminal. What ought to happen is the parents of the bulyy should be body slammed next for allowing their punk son do this kind of stuff.

The young man who was taunted and assaulted should sue his assailant and his assailant’s parents for atrocious assault and battery, and the school for failure to provide a safe environment, failure to properly supervise children under their care, and complicity in the assault on a student.

I agree Persianbull, I have two sons, one about 6 91/2, a quiet boy, was slammed many times by a little Big Guy, he quietly set his books down after asking him to leave him alone, hit him once, that was it. He was arrested at 15, and would have been expelled if it weren’t for witnesses, he is now a Brazilian jui jitsu master. My 2nd son 6 51/2 was also picked on in school, when he finally decided no more, it was claimed that he hit the little bully 10 times in about 4 seconds, no criminal charges but I had to pay $5000 after insurance for facial reconstruction on the little schmuck!!! Nobody ever bothered them again! They were awesome in football and are still great sons today. The problem with our society is that they don’t want you to defend yourself even if you are a victim and the bullies know it, but… the tides are slowly turning!

Walk away? Apparently you never were bullied. Walk away gets you attacked in the back of your head and then other bullies watch and take you on next. That is what walking away does. Go tell the school principal or parents. Have meetings? Turns out the bully gets talked to and confronts you with his buddies someplace where nobody is looking. That’s a bit unfair to say, since we don’t know how often these sorts of things happen to Casey. What does seem to be a consistent factor in these cases is that generally the one singled out doesn’t act, regardless of size. For him to take action isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it will certainly prevent these incidents from happening again.

I am a bit appalled at your statement, and you need to put yourself in his shoes. So Casey walks away… with his back to the bullies? That sounds safe, no? I went on the schools website and they have posted all on their page about how they have your kids best interest, safety and well being at heart and how this type of things will not be accepted at their school. I am sorry, but teachers know which kids are being bullied and made fun of and who the bullies are. I think that ALL OF THEM should be in trouble and Casey was just defending himself. I would press charges against everyone I could that was there and get any and everyone I could involved including lawyers. My daughter is a popular cheerleader in high school and has been a victim of bullying herself. It does not discriminate. No one thinks that it could be one of the more popular kids, but it could be anyone especiallly if you are overwieght and quiet. Is it wrong that I agree with you too PersianBull? I was bullied a few times in my life and when my Dad found out, that was the end of that. It was either kick their butts or he was kicking mine. So I chose to fight back too. My kids are not like me. They are so nice and sweet and wouldnt know what to do in a fight. My daughter asked me to let her try and handle it and her way was ignoring the problem and hoping it went away. I on the other hand went to the parents, school, and the kids themselves to let them know that I was not going to tolerate anymore of this crap. Your right, the teachers didnt do squat, but when you have proof of threats and send them to the parents and threaten them with the police. The parents tend to step of their parenting skills because they dont want to be inconvenienced and have to put up with their own kids while they are suspended from school or having to fork over any money to the courts

I install cameras into schools for a living. I’ve seen footage similar to this time and time and time again. I liaise with school principals on these things all the time.

Firstly, the little kid was suspended for 22 days as opposed to Casey’s 4. Little kid also ended up with a dislocated knee. Schools have a zero tolerance policy on violence and as such they were forced to suspend him. The short duration of the suspension to Casey shows they found in his favour but they can’t not suspend him.

Secondly, the only thing these kids have learnt is not to upload this on the internet. The little kid wont learn anything from this because its his nature not to. He’s dumb.

I had one guy try and bully me at school I didn’t slam him I got him in a choke hold until he stopped breathing, it took 3 teachers to remove my grip from around his throat, luckily one of the teachers knew CPR. He was revived a couple of minutes later. Don’t know if he suffered brain damage, I doubt he had little to damage anyway :-)

It took a lot for this kid Casey to snap. Did you not see he was punched in the face? Did you miss him getting punched in the stomach? He was being taunted and humiliated. He restrained himself but everyone has the right to defend themselves. I tell my children I don’t want to hear they are the ones throwing the first punch. They should try to walk away or reason and try to find a solution. However, when someone lays a hand on you and physically harms you then you must stand up for yourself. Let’s not overlook that Casey was also out manned. It was not one on one. The bully had friends. They didn’t come in and hurt Casey but they could have. What message is being sent to other kids when the bully who started this whole thing gets away with his actions because he was hurt as a result of them? What message are you sending to kids out there that are being bullied? This is a problem. If Casey has to suffer punishment for his actions to defend himself the school should make sure that the other kid gets disciplined as well. If you are letting the other kid go without punishment then Casey should also have the same opportunity.

I liked your comment for the content beyond the “only a woman would say such nonsense” thing .. I am a woman with children and I showed my daughters that video and I think Casey is a hero. My daughters are not constantly bullied but there have been the few who try and I have taught them to stick up for themselves and not to let anyone walk on them. I think the fact that the little guys friend was recording it goes to speak for the fact it was not the first time he picked on Casey .. If only more teenagers would stick up for themselves like Casey did, maybe there would be less teen suicide, depression, eating disorders and things like that? I was teased constantly through primary school and also into high school, which ended up in an eating disorder and depression. i was at the point where i wanted to kill myself. And last year, while i was doing year 12, a boy in the year below me commited suicide because of bullying. He too was a very solid boy and i bet he could of turned around and hammered most of the kids who were teasing him, if only he had the courage to.
I’m a girl who was constantly bullied by boys from as young as prep up until around year 9, which is when i started doing something about it. After realizing that not only am i bigger than most of them, i was also stronger than them i started putting my foot down and letting them know that it wasn’t acceptable and that i will defend myself if they even try to bring me down. Pretty soon i started defending other younger teens that were getting bullied. And all of the times that i was defending myself or another student, not once did i ever get punished because the teachers knew what i was going through and knew that there was nothing they could do to prevent the bullying.
If i didnt decide to turn things around i honestly dont know where i would be today.
Casey did the right thing, i cant think of many people that wouldnt act similarly.
For all we know, that boy could of been bullying other people too and hopefully Casey just put a stop to that.

I was bullied relentlessly at school and I wish I had done something about it I’d be a different person today if I had.

See the thing is, I know the bully most likely didn’t mean to slam him that hard. He just did it from a snap, and to be honest, I would’ve done exactly the same in his position. Why get a criminal charge for that? It seems you can just throw out a criminal charge to a normal person who only has one “snap” moment in their life, yet the real criminals are getting away with assault, murder, theft, and so on. With the current justice system our world has today, more offences are being committed because people know they can get away with it. This is just a schoolyard incident, and the kid surely should’ve known the consequences, juvenile or not.

I myself was an overweight kid who got bullied a lot. When I went to another school I hoped it would be over, but it wasn’t, untill I knocked down a guy who was 4 years older (at least). My point; schools are jungles, and sometimes it’s needed to apply the laws of the jungle and make sure nobody dares to touch you anymore. So Casey did good, and the little sh*t-for-brains should be lucky that Casey kept his cool afterwards; I can’t say I would have at that age.

From the video it doesn’t look like the kid just walk away. There are multiple bullies around and given that its being recorded it’s obvious that this was a planned attack. You can’t just walk away from that – those kids wanted to hurt/humiliate the kid and they got punished. It was definitely not the most ideal conclusion (kid probably has a concussion from landing on his head) but kids can be nasty and you do what you have to to defend yourself.
And why did you bring up a martial artist? That example is completely irrelevant in this context.

I’m probably going to email the support over to Australian educational representatives after it gets a fair amount of fans to show how wrong they are about suspending Casey.

I was bullied in grammar school during the 50′s. A group of kids from school would walk behind me and step on the backs of my shoes causing them to come off. Then they would laugh at me and make mean comments. I was a tall skinny kid. They were of various heights and weight. My mother told me to walk away, turn the other cheek, etc.
It continued for weeks. My neighbor’s father told me to slowly turn around and get close to the one who is doing this to me. “Tell him that it wasn’t right to do it to you and make a fist behind your back.
When he is distracted by listening to your comments, pull out your fist and punch him in the mouth quickly….then keep hitting him until he falls down or backs off.” I was afraid but was desperate enough to try it.
Guess what? It worked….they never picked on me again! It was just common sense. I learned a lesson and used what I learned for future incidents.

My father always said to me if someone hits you, you hit them back. He said he had no problems with me defending myself. Some guy picked on me in high school acting tough in front of his friends so i dropped him. His Friends were in absolute shock. I didn’t get picked on again. Of course I was the the one who got into trouble. You’ve only got to do it once to get your point across. No doubt its the cheapest and easiest way to rehabilitate a bully. Well done Casey.

Sure, “SUE THE SCHOOL,” that’s always the answer. The school district should sue the parents of that little punk because they are negligent of teaching him to conduct himself in a civil manner. The little runt bully clearly started this.. by punching the victim.. and the victim did nothing.. until he started in on him again.. and then the bully got what was coming to him.. In the end though, as he passed by my shoulder and pushed me around, I kicked him in the stomach, which made him a fly couple feet. After that, he didn’t intimate me anymore. He began to “chill” near me, if you get the drift.
Funny thing though. I had people watching this whole incident since I did it in the middle of the crowd. Teacher didn’t notice it (I was thinking it but just thought who the heck cares) and these bystanders didn’t do anything, as usual.

Overall, a great experience on my hand. If you are a loner or have a child that have difficulties adjusting to the society, just make them tough and tell him to beat up your bully in anyway possible, because after your child grows up, no matter what kind of punishment he received afterward from the school, he will NOT forget about his righteous action.

The news we have here in Australia is that they were both suspended. It’s unfortunate that this crucial piece of information was left out as the story went internationally viral.

There are some people that just don’t understand words. Modern society is teaching kids that words mean nothing, because they are never backed by action. When learning how to cope with bullying, its all words. As a victim you’re told to tell an adult, the adult is supposed to talk to the bully, then the bully just nods and smiles and says “yes, ma’am/sir, I won’t do it again.” Adults don’t follow you around and protect you when you’re a kid. And at the same time, teachers don’t want to bring punishment on kids like this bully, because god forbid they end up in that teacher’s class, then the whole teaching term is made hell for the teacher.

If you have someone with no compassion, or too much ego, or a general lack of understanding of their native language (the little bully had to have atleast one, if not a combination of the three)-they won’t respond to words. What do you do when, time and time again, a dog doesn’t understand “No?” You give it a little smack on the nose. Animals don’t reason with each other, and if a person is going to act like a thoughtless animal and bully another, sometimes they need to be dealt with physically instead of logically.

We tend to think people slip into depression at older ages (late teens, early 20s, post-partem, mid-life crisis). But it happens at ages in kids as young as these. Have you ever watched or spoken to a clinically depressed preteen? Its tragic. These kids are so young and vulnerable that they feel they have no defenders, no way out, no escape. Teachers and parents do nothing, schools do nothing, and they are taught not to be violent, and to do nothing. They can’t not attend school! Often it leads to depression.

I knew two guys who were picked on for his weight. They developed eating disorders, it happens in boys too. One was so malnourished for so long that he lost all the hair on his head at 16 and it never grew back.

Walking away for me was a sign to warn the other person before I put my foot up their asses. Being close to 50-years-old, I can see how it used to be that a crime VICTIM was just that…the victim, and could defend him/herself from attack. Everyone used to focus on how horrible the attacker was, not dwell on PC notions about the rule of law or perfect world, theoretical outcomes.

Now, everyone is expected to “walk away” from miscreants, and rely on the authorities. But what message does that send? The types of people who choose to harm others know they will get away with it, with no real consequences. If everyone knew that harming someone was LIKELY to result in immediate retaliation, there’d be less of it. I mean, how many times have I seen people run their mouths, then slink away when their victims DON’T back down?

It reminds me of a debate I’ve had with a police officer friend of mine. One of his colleagues made some comment about everyone hating police, until someone is breaking into their homes, and then who do they call? I laughed loudly (and well) when I heard that. I countered that if I was free to gain the kind of training, weapons, and home security devices I would like, I would GLADLY take care of business myself. Disarming citizens, and charging them with crimes if they fight back against an attacker, is why we (law-abiding citizens) HAVE TO call police. I was the tall skinny kid who got bullied regularly. Similar thing happened to me, I got punished for defending myself. My parents stood by me, which was the biggest thing. Made me feel sooooo much better knowing the peoples opinions I valued most told me I did the right thing. Funny thing was the bullying all but stopped.
One of my kids got bullied in school also. After 4 kids attacked him, hurting him to the point of missing a few days school. I asked him why he didn’t stop them. He had the ability. He was a purple belt in karate & told me he was taught to “not fight out of anger”. After meeting with the school & learning that the bullies parents wouldn’t even come in to the school to discuss the indecent & that it wasn’t the first time the school had had trouble with this group. And after meeting with his sensi a plan was developed. My son was told to try to avoid the first attack, assume a defensive & tell the attacker to stop. If a second attack was launched he was told to aggressively block the attack (an aggressive block would consist of a very solid block of the aggressors extremity used during the attack) & warn the attacker that “if you continue to attack me I will be forced to defend myself”. Upon a third attack… all bets were off, both the sensi & I told my son to go ahead & disable the attacker to the point that my son could get away.

That is what Casey did !!

Walk away is a good thing IF, and I mean IF you have not been assaulted (touched) by your attacker. When that happens, all bets are off , I always taught my son’s to absorb as much verbal abuse as they could and still walk away from the situation UNLESS they were touched or hit in any way. At that point they were to defend themselves with all the skills I taught them, which were considerable, considering my 20 something years in the Marine Corp and 35 plus years of KARATE training…… So much for walking away. Sometimes the abusing party needs to know that there is a risk in bad behavior!!

In my old high school, even if someone fought back in total self defense, both parties would get suspended. A security guard once told me you basically just have to curl up.. Great….absolutly great!!! I was bullied in high school too. Then I decided to defend my self and sent the bullyer to the dentist. I was taken to the principals office and he commenced to shove me around while telling me that if I liked to fight so much, that I should fight with him. His shoving trurned to pushing, then slapping and, SNAP!!! I again decided to defend myself. My parents had to come and pick me up at Juvenile Hall as I was picked up for assualting the principal. I was suspended from school. When I returned to schoolwe had a new principal and I never got bullied again.

I’m 40 now, and as a kid I was a skinny beanpole, much like my 2 sons today. We had a neighborhood bully who was the “big kid” on the block. Not overweight but just BIG, and he used it to bully all the kids in the neighborhood. One summer he put his focus on me…I think because I didn’t fall in line with his bullying. My parents spoke to his at least once that I recall, but nothing changed. My dad told me I might have to deal with it myself. One day, he was doing his thing and ended up throwing a large rock at my leg, then walking up to me with a grin on his face as I was near tears. When he was close enough, I popped him in the nose as hard as I could, and he hit the ground holding his face, then stumbled up and ran home with his hands full of blood, as the neighborhood kids watched. I can’t recall me or any of my friends being bullied by him again.

In high school, a local punk took offense to one of my friends talking to what turned out to be his girlfriend, and since he knew where I lived (my friend was from out of the neighborhood), he began driving by my house and yelling threats, and telling my neighborhood friends and even my brother that he was gonna beat the crap out of me. One day I was working out front with my dad and he starts driving by and yelling stuff with a car full of his bully friends. My dad asked what was up, and I told him, and he said this time you better not pull a “Brian” (name of the bully from my younger days). So we called the police, and they were sitting in front of my house when sure enough the car full of bullys turns onto our street again. They saw the cop and foolishly turned down a cul-de-sac, where the policeman pulled them over and brought the bully back to my house in the back of his squad car so we could have a discussion. The kid tried once more to be the “tough guy” by talking trash to me from the back of the car. I walked right up and stuck my head in the window just begging him to take it further, and the cop just let me. The kid backed down, the cop thanked me for handling the situation well and warned the kid that if anything escalated or continued he had his address and would be at his doorstep with handcuffs. Never heard or saw the kid again. I get the feeling that if someone had popped him in the nose when he was a younger bully, I never would have had to call the police.

I even had some male teachers praise how my really big and strong son handled it. He told me of an incident at school (private so a different situation from public schools) that he observed when a small kid who had made a career of it got his back.

The physical differences between the two was similar to these two, the Incredible Hulk vs a midget. D was practicing with a basketball while waiting for carpool. T ran in, grabbed the ball and hurled it as far as he could. D picked T up and stood him in the large industrial trash can and told T you stay right there till I come back with my ball.

D came back and told T “you’re going to live in this garbage can if you and your little friends don’t turn around and run in the opposite direction when you see me.” At which point he lifted the now scummy inside and out (it had rained earlier that day ) little twerp out and gently set him on the ground.

The story spread like wildfire thru the school and that was the last time D ever had a problem until he moved on to high school.

Just thinking about it today warms the cockles of my heart. I sure hope things start to go Casey’s way now that so much attention has been focused on this story.

I even had some male teachers praise how my really big and strong son handled it. He told me of an incident at school (private so a different situation from public schools) that he observed when a small kid who had made a career of it got his back.

The physical differences between the two was similar to these two, the Incredible Hulk vs a midget. D was practicing with a basketball while waiting for carpool. T ran in, grabbed the ball and hurled it as far as he could. D picked T up and stood him in the large industrial trash can and told T you stay right there till I come back with my ball.

D came back and told T “you’re going to live in this garbage can if you and your little friends don’t turn around and run in the opposite direction when you see me.” At which point he lifted the now scummy inside and out (it had rained earlier that day ) little twerp out and gently set him on the ground.

The story spread like wildfire thru the school and that was the last time D ever had a problem until he moved on to high school.

Just thinking about it today warms the cockles of my heart. I sure hope things start to go Casey’s way now that so much attention has been focused on this story.

I understand why you did what you did. I too was bullied my entire school life, until I finally snapped and beat the crap out of them. They didn’t even get the full force of the fury that had built up inside of me all those years. I am a girl by the way, and took out many of big guys that taunted me for being heavy. As an adult now, I can say that I too went about it the wrong way. Bulley’s do what they do, because they feel very inadeqate about themselves. Julian Im with u…walking away is worst, these bullies don’t have respect, I don’t believe in violence, but since my daughter was victim of a bully I knew the only way it would stop was her defending herself. I spoke with teachers, social workers, the school principal, the bullys’ parents but the problem kept on and it was worst.. Once I sat down with my daughter well she was crying, I was so angry I told her it’s enough nobody has the right to make a fool of you, I never wanted to say this but from know on I allow you to defend yourself, and she did. The next day the teacher called me because my daugther had beat up her aggresor. She was’nt suspended, since I had evidence of all the times I tried to stop it with no violence, the bully was suspended and her parents decide to take her to another school. Since then my daughter is the defender of the victims of bully in school and nobody is able to do anything against her, because she demonstrate nobody has the right to make you feel as you were nothing.

If you are going to get suspended for protecting yourself, then next time I would do more than just body-slam the bully!

When my oldest son was cold cocked by a bully he’d been trying to avoid for weeks the boy was charged and ended up with a bad rep around town and well known to the local police. My son ended up with a good rep around town and respected by police.
When some one threatened to kick my youngest son’s a**, he casually said, “Good luck with that” and walked away…end of story.
I don’t blame Casey for what he did. I would like him to realize the he is so powerful he could gently put the bully on the ground and gently hold him there until he apologizes, or gently put him over his shoulder and walk him to the office for discipline….it would be soooo funny.

I think it’s interesting that Casey didn’t hit back. To me, it looked like he tried to stop the kid without punching him. He also didn’t continue to beat him up after the other kid was on the ground. While he slammed him to the ground pretty hard, it didn’t look malicious to me, just deliberate. Based on the video, there’s no way Casey should have been suspended. He should have been commended for stopping the assault and not escalating it.

Everyone saying Casey did the right thing is absolutely correct..unfortunately, it’s only a matter of time before the little bully’s misguided parents continue to teach their child the wrong thing and sue Casey and his parents, the boy videotaping, the school, and anyone else some lawyer can justify naming in the suit for the physical and “emotional” distress he has endured by becoming the loser in this epic internet beatdown. I’m sure they’ll continue to shape his delinquency in another manner by imparting that you can capitalize financially on situations such as these (even if you were the cause of all of it) because people (ie a jury) are so gullible to believe what a clever attorney can sell. To suffer from emotional distress and humiliation, one has to possess actual feelings, something this bully clearly lacks or else he wouldn’t have victimized Casey in the first place.

From what I saw, it went down like this… The “gang” planned the attack on Casey and even planned to video it so that they could laugh at it later and pass it around, even post it on their web site… What you don’t know as parents is that this new age of kids watching all sorts of stagnet, sick stuff on all their screens is rapidly becoming a new age of desensitized uncaring turds like the rat pack that attacked Casey. Wake up people and get involved with your children. Censor what they see at a tender young age. Teach them what will happen to them at home if they act like this in any public place. Maybe that would at least slow the little creeps down some. I have watched a couple of children in my neighborhood act like little hoodlums, and their single Mother denied that her precious children would “do such a thing” while they watched me snickering behind her back. My guess is that young Casey broke the skinny bully’s leg and the school official viewed how Casey treated his tormentor with total disregard when body slamming him to the ground in a way that could possibly endanger the little worm’s life and so had to teach Casey a lesson in not defending himself with total abandon. Notice a big kid attempting to shield Casey from getting to the worm but didn’t want to risk receiving the same treatment?

The victim put up with it for 4 years and then defended himself appropriately while getting punched. Bullies continue unless they get stood up to. It sends a message out to bullies that even after 4 years things can get unstuck and sends a message out to victims that bullies are cowards that only do it because they get away with it.

A freak accident could happen whereby the bully could have been hurt more seriously but it was unlikely and didn’t and would be the exception that proves the rule. But people don’t have to be bullied just in case there is a freak accident affecting the bully. If someone robs someone and gets hurt in the process they brought it on themselves and if someone physically assaults someone who wants to be left alone (as in this case) and gets hurt in self defence they brought it on themselves. Darwin holds that if we swim at the shallow end of the gene pool we are at risk anyway.

By contrast if the bully kept punching the victim then the victim fell over and hit his head on something in a fluke accident and died that would be tragic. Alternatively victims in their teen years often committ suicide after bullying and that also is tragic.

The harsh reality is that there is a choice of two unlikely but potential risks – bully or victim. Justice demands that we make the choice that doesn’t put the victim at risk.

By the way Berry the school announced that the bully got a grazed knee. There was speculation about a broken ankle because he limped just after but it didn’t happen.

A good old-fashioned lawsuit will solve that problem and I hope the school administration is bankrupted by it considering that the video clearly shows this to be totally and completely self-defense. Right on, Casey!

I am making a formal call for the resignation of the school administrator that allowed Casey to be suspended.

He displayed extreme patience and acted appropriately with reasonable force.

I request a formal review of this administrators credentials and the school should be forced to issue an apology to Casey.

I was bullied when I was a kid. I took years of verbal abuse from others. I saw this video today and had mixed feelings. Part of me thought, “yeah, he did right standing up for himself.” Then the adult in me stepped in, “where are the adults/teachers? why is someone videotaping this violence? what will the school do to stop the bullying and violence?” Lets be honest here, the school is responsible for the well being of all the children there, period. What if a student pulls out a gun next time and shoots the bully? Violence doesn’t solve violence, period. As adults we need to be proactive and stop the bullying and violence, all of us; parents, teachers, administrators, public officials. Enough talking about it people, take action to help the kids, everywhere.

You cannot rely on the administration (authorities) to protect your child against bullying. American prinicpals are scared to death of being sued if they take action. I was a teacher for 36 yrs. and a parent of five. If any of my children had been bullied – at least that I knew about – I would give the teacher, the principal, the superintendent and the school board one week to stop it, then I’d have filed a lawsuit. Principals should be as much afraid of the victim’s parents as they are of the bully’s sire and dam. It may be another “long bow” (Remember Agincourt ?), but more Am. states are passing “castle” laws which allow a resident to shoot and kill any SOB that enters his premises unannounced and poses a threat. (I’m 74 and have my Concealed Carry Weapon permit and the gun to go with it.) When the authorities can’t/won’t protect you, you have to protect yourself. Way to go, Casey !

I can feel a Today Tonight Story on this event coming on, I would love to see the Today Tonight Crew confront the Parents of the Bully on national TV and would’nt it be great if they did the confrontation as public as possible with the Bully in tow. Maybe then the parents of this kid would have an inkling of what Casey obviously goes through each day and maybe realise that there is something wrong with thier parenting skills. I believe this episode would rate through the roof and if I was a half decent prosecuter I would be grabbing Casey and his family “pro bono” and sue the crap out of that school to make a statement to schools everywhere that this shit should not be taken lightly anymore. The time a child spends at school should be a safe learning and social enviroment where they can develop into civil law abiding citizen, these should be some of the best days of there life. We have special schools set up for kids with dissability. I would like to see schools set up for social misfits run by hard nosed military types who would make there day so agonising that these horrible stains on the community would shape up quick so as they could return to the solace of normal school life and failure to attend would be the equivelent of parole violation and guess who pays the fine, the parents, can’t lead your child in the direction of social adequecy then you don’t deserve to have any.

I too bullied in high school. The bully came up behind me and racked me in the gonads with a ruler. Everybody laughed. Later, when I just happened to be behind that same guy in a college cafeteria line, I kicked him so hard in the gonads from behind that I heard later he was permanently impotent. Nobody ever said a thing to me about it either. Later I ran into the guy face to face and I told him to come on, let’s have at it, and he started to tear up, at age 35 and I just laughed in his face and walked away. Bullies need their due justice. Ah, the bully verbally and physically battered Casey before Casey defended himself from aggressive physical attacks by the bully. The “educators” who decided to suspend Casey should be disciplined themselves for going after the wrong person and not punishing a child who just committed felony battery right on video. This is such a clear case of self defense.

My son was being bullied by another child and was attacked with a bat. He warned the child that if he didn’t stop, he would hit him back. A week later, the bully ran up behind my son and began hitting him with a bat again – totally unprovoked and with witnesses. The witnesses reported the child with the bat. I was called to the school and my son – who had not hit anyone- was labeled the bully because he had THREATENED to hit the other child if the bullying did not stop. Go figure! No action was taken against the child who had committed violence despite there being witnesses to it.

but then i watched it again and realized that the little runt was doing so while surrounded by seemingly older / bigger group of kids who were laughing in the background while someone was filming the staged attack. i just wonder if perhaps he did it due to peer pressure, i.e. misguided actions to impress the cool kids – or he was himself bullied into attacking Casey to make it a more humiliating video. i am not condoning what he did. but he was a kid, impressionable and easily swayed – just thinking that maybe he wasn’t just a bully but a victim as well, not of Casey but of his so-called friends. of course, i could be wrong

raising children is like growing a tree. if you want it to grow up straight and steady, you gotta put a fence around it so it feels its limits – what is acceptable and what is not. once you see it is growing up well and steady (never mind a few stray branches) you can remove the fences and it will grow on its own. it is harder to correct a tree that you allowed to get bent and unruly from the start – you can trim some of the branches but it will never grow straight

yes, in my childrens school as well. my son held back from fighting by ducking and holding the kid down and he still was suspended. He never hit the other kid not once, he said he didnt want to hurt him, he was smaller than me.

I am not a father but if Casey were my boy, I’d be very proud of him. (Although, I’m not aware of any previous history between those boys) He did not provoke his menace. He patiently gave his “attacker” a chance to stop harassing and walk away. When the bully continued his provocation, Casey did what was necessary but no more. He could have been more vengeful when his attacker was down but realizing the matter was solved, he walked away.

My father taught me to stand up for myself. That is all that Casey was doing. He tried “turning the other cheek.” Since that didn’t work, I believe God wants a man (or a young man) to be what He made us to be. MEN! In my sophmore year in high school (USA) we had to seniors (last year high school) who were in a woodworking class.

They constantly would pick on one or another sophmore each day. I warned them that one day one of them wouldn’t come to school and that on that day the other one would pay.

Well that day came and we took the one senior in the back room and beat him black and blue – no permanent injuries except to their pride.

They never laid a hand on another sophmore. Bullies only understand physical retribution.

My son was at a friend’s party and two kids were picking on him. He got them both in a choke hold. Luckily we can laugh about it because some grown-up finally paid attention and made him let go of them. They did it again and he got them again. Absolutely right. I was a victim all the way through school. You can’t walk away, because the bullies who aren’t as bold become more emboldened by your submissive behavior. Think of pack animals, or mob behavior. The little guy, needing to prove himself, steps up to the big submissive kid who always walks away. Where is the threat? He’s just going to get hit a few times then walk away again, right? Other wanna be bullies see that big kid back down from a scrawny little punk will then think to themselves, wow, if that litle runt can pick on im, so can I. and the cycle continues until every time Casey walks by someone, he gets a free smack to the face or as I got while in highschool, a rap on the top of the head by a class ring.

So what does fighting back get you? At the minimum, a reprieve from other potential bullies, but possibly a reassessment by other previous bullies who now will want to re-establish their “superiority.” Casey was right to fight back, to stop that one bully and give pause to all other potential bullies, but he may have to continue to fight back. With his new found fame, that may now be an easier prospect for not only Casey, but a whole host of other victims that can see the support and the results of making the decision to to fight back.

I agree with Sean, first of all that guy broke a policy by bringing the camera to school, second video taping a fight with out informing the staff, that’s whole 10 years in prison! Casey should have slammed some sense in to those punks, im very supersized that the kid is still alive not dead!

This reminds me of a horrible incident years ago where a woman fought against her rapist using self defence skills and successfully put him to the ground. She was then charged for assault.

The only problem with dealing with a bully is it can often have the opposite effect to what most people report. I once set about beating up the toughest guy in school. Suffice to say after that alot more people wanted a crack. People see you as a measuring tool and want to square-dance with the “tough kid”

Times change though, I’m only 22 but even then attitudes were different. I recall a kid down the street giving me some trouble at school with his friends. So my dad invited his parents and him to one of our BBQ’s and told me to give him a taste when he had no mates with him. Problem solved. He knew if he pissed about in school I’d see him afterwards. I wouldn’t say I was bullied though, I don’t like that word. If someone says or does something and you respond, that’s not being bullied. It’s when you allow it to happen that you’re a victim of bullying. Imo.

These days I’m unsure though. It’s okay as parents to condone this and that. And morally I have no issue, but it’s a different playing field than it was. Destroy some kids ego and you’re liable to get knifed up depending on the school and location.

i have tought my kids self defense and also enrolled them in to MMA because of the hole bullying bull sh** at there school my oldest son got jump with in the school (washroom) by 3 kids and my son had no choice but to stand up for him self one of them was sent to hospital and the other 2 had to find a new school because they were kicked off the property

That little punk had it coming. I am a mother of 3. My eldest is a 12yr old boy, 65kg and 175cm tall. One would think he would be free of bullying bcoz of his size, sporting ability and academic achievements, sadly this is not the case. After moving schools twice, countless emails, letters, meetings, ripped uniforms, blood noses, nervous breakdowns, “just walk away” and “be assertive” pep talks etc I finally let his father revert back to our neanderthal roots. Especially after having teachers tell us off the record that there was F#*k all they could do about it!!
Having been a victim of bullying myself, I fought tooth and nail to help my son in accordance with policy and the law, all the while knowing deep down that the only way to trully help him was to teach him to defend himself, as I and my husband had to do at his age when faced with bullying.
Thankfully he hasn’t had to use what we taught him to the full extent. A shove, getting up in the bully’s grill and not backing off seems to have worked, at the end of the day they are cowards themselves and are probably enduring bullying at home.
Getting suspended, expelled or sued are small prices to pay in comparison to my son’s life. No child should ever think that suicide is the only way out of being bullied, so good on you Casey, I reckon you’ve done much more than put a bully in his place.
Would be nice to see the parents, policy makers and politicians make a start on dealing with these issues before another child thinks that the only way out is to kill the bully or heaven forbid, themselves.

Several years ago, my kids were being bullied by a boy who weighed more than my two combined. In fact, he weighed more than I did by about ten pounds. A talk with his mother did no good. She had told him that he was hurting people, but that just told him he was getting what he wanted — to hurt people. The next time my children came home crying because the bully had pushed them down, I told them to come with me while I talked to the little monster. I looked him right in the eye and told him that I wasn’t afraid of him. I said, “Your size didn’t matter at all to someone who knows how to take you down.. I took judo and karate in college, and I have thrown a 230 lb. man over my shoulder. Because he was my friend, I didn’t kick his face in when he got back up. Every bully I’ve ever known has eventually picked the wrong victim. The lucky ones lived, but they ended up living behind bars like animals in the zoo. If you don’t want to end up like that, you’d better change your ways NOW.” My kids thought it was hilarious that the bully was afraid of their mom, and he left them alone after that.

I bet he doesn’t get picked on anymore, a similar situation happened to me in 5th grade. Picking a kid up by the throat and throwing them over a lunch table in front of the entire class set me up for life. Generally just one public display of “don’t fuck with that kid or he’ll kill you” is quite effective.

A lawsuit needs to be brought up against the school and its administrators. it’s like…they too hear the bell ring and school’s over, as well as any /all of their responsibilities. thank God Casey has a strong chin. Thank fully it was caught on tape. A clear case of complete self defense on Casey’s part. The boy hit him once, then again, then attempted another time. “Reacting” doesn’t work if the bully is twice your size and/or you are being bullied by a gang. That’s what happened to me for years. No teachers, no parents ever intervened despite by pleas.

Attitudes to these kinds of social issues in Australia seem to be similar to those in the US. If anything, Australians are even more “think of the children” PC obsessed than Americans. This means children are to be preciously bubble wrapped and body guarded until they are 18yo, are tabula rasa and are not supposed to show any primal urges whether violent, sexual or anything else. It’s true the culture is a bit less law suit happy than the US though and settlement figures are not as ridiculously huge.

The schoolyard is and always was a violent, dangerous place where you can get systematically bullied over years, harassed, beaten, raped or even killed. I know I was damaged by the bullying I received – I still have big issues with trust. If I feel I am being bullied as an adult (adults bully by more subtle means) I react quite badly which can escalate the situation. CCTV is the answer at school but someone has to be watching. Punishments need to be decisive but corporal punishment only teaches kids that it’s ok to hit.

Another point: young boys don’t reason like adults (if you can say most adults “reason” much at all, that is!). We can and should teach kids to try to deal with conflict reasonably without violence. But in the end, the schoolyard is a vicious jungle, especially for boys. Ask any teacher – boys can be real animals. When reason fails, boys should be taught how to fight back decisively. And learning not to pick on someone bigger or stronger than you is an important lesson for any boy.

I’m a teacher in Australia, and I’ve gotta say most teachers I know support Casey. To all those saying teachers are at fault though.. what exactly should they do in that situation? It is nigh on impossible to expel kids anymore as politicians have put so many conditions because they wanna look like the education system is producing these productive graduates who finish year 12.
Should teachers be at every corner of the school monitoring everything the kids do? I didn’t become a teacher to be a police officer, nor to be an animal trainer, nor a child minder. I did it because I want to teach my subject and hopefully engage students. Many times when teachers do something the parents support their little darlings and blame it on everything but themselves, who are, in the main at fault for raising the little shits, because they have abbrogated their duties to the TV and computer games. Most kids are actually quite decent and nice students, but in every group of 25, it only takes 1 or 2 to create a bad seed. Individiually 99% of students are nice, but in a group they become little terrors, because they are trying to prove to everyone that they are “cool”.
The suspension does seem harsh but you can imagine the parents of the little turd using it in court if they sue the school saying that the school did nothing when an older and bigger kid broke their precious darlings ankle.
The ideal solution would be for others to intervene when they see bullying, but how many of you (including myself) actually would have at that age?

Schools now treat the victim the same as they do the bully. If you defend yourself rather than running to a teacher you face the same charges as the person who hit you. This despite the fact that the supreme court has ruled that there is wiggle room in the nation’s no tolerance policy. It’s easier to get rid of both students than it is to figure out what happened. There was a case some years back where a student (Matthew Malloy) followed the policy against fighting back and the bully darn near killed him. He’s now suing the school district for quite a bit of money. Schools are victimizing children by teaching them that it’s better to be a victim than face the consequences for fighting back and I’ve often wondered how this will play out when one of these children faces an abduction. I’ve told my kids that we’ll face the consequences and that should anyone hit them that they have my permission to kick the living crap out of the individual. But I think it goes deeper than the school – I think it’s a money making scheme by the local govt. who charges both the victim and perpetrator of violence with assault – both pay 100′s in court fees and then 100′s more in “anger management” therapy – nice little way to generate income.

I stopped it by turning the tables. I did the hunting. I hunted each one of them down individually outside of school and beat the hell out of each and every one. A couple did need to see a doctor.

Very, very few people (children or adults) that I have ever met would have been able to take the abuse that you did without retaliating in the same manner. It’s unfortunate that your school takes such a stance. School is suppose to prepare you for life outside of school. Everyone has the right to defend themselves from harm. I always tryed to teach my boys to walk away if it was just verbal insults. But when the first punch landed it was open season. What was Casey supposed to do the smaller kid punched him two or three times.He defended himself and rightly so. If he turned the other cheek the kid would have hit him there as well. He could have hurt that kid alot worse but chose to walk away. I applaud you young man for standing up to the bully.

While the bodyslam itself IS painful to watch, you can see the bully (somewhat) breaking his fall with his arm. Might the kid have permanent damage down the road? It’s possible, and I hope not. We had a bully in our school who was HUGE compared to his classmates. Every day, after gym class, when the boys were in the shower room, the BULLY would start using his wet towel to snap his naked classmates in the genitals. After numerous warnings, by his classmates, that he was going to get the shit beat out of jim if he continued the behavior, he was cocky enough to continue the bullying.
Well, one fine day his entire group of classmates kept their promise. As a group they threw him to the floor. He was kicked repeatedly, in the genitals, by each boy who had been victimized by him. If this BULLY had snapped boy x 20 times in the past, then boy x gave BULLY BOY 20 kicks to the groin.
Needless to say, when the street justice was done BULLY BOY had a scrotum the size of a basketball.
His father called my father to complain.
My father said “Tell your lard-ass son that he got what he deserved, and if he ever attacks my son again, my son has my permission to do whatever it takes to teach BULLY BOY a lesson he won’t forget.

The school administrators ought to be liable on several counts for something like this to happen there must be a toleration level. I agree violence isn’t the answer but children have a more concrete attitude to it. I was a bullied girl in grade school and the first year of high school. In grade school (age8) I was pushed and shoved more than once on the school grounds as well as the bus. The older girl that shoved me around finally tripped the tripper and I shoved her to ground. It was enough to stop her. Now it’s even worse in schools. The fault lies squarely with the educational institution and the parents. Schools apparently don’t or can’t stop it and parents are too apathetic and obsessed with their own lives while forgetting children need more guidance.

How is the school meant to have stoped this? Are you honestly saying you think the school has the power to monitor every child every second of the day? School will always have bullies, there’s nothing at all you can do about it, it’s just how kids are. The power the school does have is to review the evidence, and take the proper action, which is to punish the bully and commend Casey for defending himself. Too many parents sue schools these days for things they couldn’t possibly have any control over.

A few years ago, in Yuba City, CA, my son was in 8th grade and was jumped by two boys on his way to class. He tried to walk away, only to have both kids keep coming after him. When he saw he had no other choice he fought back. A teacher saw it, took them to the office and all three were given “in-school suspension”. I met with the principle and when I pushed her on the issue of my son receiving the same punishment as the aggressors she told me that students were not allowed to defend themselves.
I was shocked by her response and her blind attitude. I told her that schools are no different than other parts of society. There are going to be predators that will continually pick on people. They do it until someone stands up to them and then they move on to the next target. She wasn’t happy when I told her that I fully supported son’s (or my daughter’s for that matter) actions in defending themselves.
The High School’s policies were no different. It is amazing what liberal, politically correct, state and local school administrations are doing to our public education system. We never home-schooled any of our four children, but anymore, I don’t blame anyone who feels compelled to take on the challenge to ensure their children are taught the necessary subjects and educational foundations they need in this life instead of some of the garbage the schools are required to teach.

There are many ways to stop bullying in schools and elsewhere. I know that it is frowned on by many but I honestly believe having studied all alternatives that the most effective method of stopping bullys is extreme violence. Casey Heynes has done nothing wrong and should be held as a beacon to others. I believe that the headmaster should be facing some scrutiny and asked why the bully thought he was going to get away with his aggression on his placid victim? He certainly didn’t fear authority catching him and acted with impunity.
I don’t care if they are middle eastern tyrants or schoolboys with attitude it is time to stop them in their tracks.

I got bullied by the hispanics too… They were little bastards. One pulled a knife on me and demanded my money, but I managed to get the knife away from him and jammed it all the way through his porky little foot. I’ll never forget the satisfied, redeeming feeling I got from watching that little punk crawl away with his foot gushing blood as 15 people watched. No one bothered me after that. Standing up to a bully is the only way to be left alone, and if you’re ganged up on, its OK to lose as long as you leave some black eyes, fat lips and broken teeth on your aggressors… They will pick on someone less likely to fight back next time (they are all cowards, after all).

It’s worth it. My kids are well-trained in self-defense (1 black belt, 1 brown belt, and 1 gold belt in Tae Kwon Do). The rule is that you never hit first, but if another child touches you in a violent way, then you defend yourself with all possible force, and we’ll worry about consequences later. If it means suspension or even a lawsuit, so be it, but no one will ever mess with you again. Never be a victim.

My political sensibilities are pretty liberal/progressive (by our 21st Century standards) and I don’t care what anyone thinks of that. It’s what I believe is better for our country and the world.

That said, I’m perfectly okay with myself for pushing the kid who punched me in the ear without provocation in 9th grade backwards over a railing, which gave him a concussion and broke his collar bone when he landed on his head and shoulder. In college, I piledrived an angry drunk who swung at me on the street outside a bar (again, no provocation!) and he was still out cold when the ambulance took him away. People around told the cops what happened and I wasn’t arrested or charged. I’m okay with that, too.

Not surprisingly, then, I support Casey.

Look, I understand what schools are TRYING to do. Self-control is what separates us from the rest of Earth’s animals. You can’t have none and expect no consequences. If people counterattack any way they want, it’s deadly anarchy. A bodyslam is dangerous, believe it.

But school administrators, police, and prosecutors also have to understand what is and isn’t HUMAN. There’s some individual difference involved, but insisting that someone who’s just been punched in the face not COUNTERattack is akin to telling him not to blink for an hour.

The lesson they’re teaching in Casey’s case isn’t “everything will be okay for you if you just do nothing and tell an authority figure later.” The only message they’re sending is: “You are and always will be a victim, whether of bullies or of authority figures. I gave presentation about bullying to some school administrators on 3/16. Here are some facts I told them: 1. A student is 3x more likely to be bullied on school grounds than on a bus. 2. A student is bullied on the playground every seven minutes. 3. A bullying episode lasts, on average, less than 38 seconds.

I went back and reviewed the video. The video was 41 seconds, and the entire incident came to a screeching halt after 25 seconds. I also agree with other commentators that Casey was set up because Bully #2 was about to take his turn until the older female student intervened on Casey’s behalf.

IMHO sports are a great outlet for energy and aggression. Can’t play unless you follow the rules, and if you don’t penalties follow immediately. Team sports encourage cooperation and ideally selflessness. Seems a better way to spend ones time than playing video games. My sister (8) who was 7 years younger than me was being bullied by the next door neighbors son, every day after school. He would chase her home and then throw rocks at the door. I wanted to put him in his place but knew I couldn’t because I would be the bully. I was responsible for my Sis until my parents got home. So I told her she was going to have to stand up for herself, and that the next time it happened I was going to lock her out of the house. So the next time arrived and I looked out of the window and my sister is straddling the boy and pounding his head on the pavement, and he is bawling. So I let her in and she never had another problem … but the neighbors were pissed and wouldn’t talk to my parents … no loss there. The neighbors believed their precious little boy could do no wrong.

Who cares if you get suspended? High school isn’t all that meaningful. What does it matter if you miss 4 days? Learning how to stand up for yourself is worth it, no question.

My School was that way too. Even if you didn’t fight back you got suspended for fighting too. With that in mind if one does decide to fight back you might as well obliterate the other person. After all, you’ll be suspended just the same even if you don’t hit back.

I was bullied a lot in school. In middle school I had kids that used to wait for me before the morning bell and throw rocks at me (yes, that hurt). One day in gym class a bunch of boys (I’m female) pushed me into the corner and the “leader” started unbuttoning his pants to try and freak me out- the gym teacher came over, laughing, and said “break it up guys”- something like that. I dreaded going to school. I never once laid my hands on anyone, I learned to completely IGNORE them and it stopped. While I sympathize with Casey, violence ultimately just creates more violence.

Where the parent? File a lawsuit against the school……this will fix the problems real quick.

That was one of the most awesome videos I’ve ever seen in my life. I laughed so hard. I played Baseball, Football and Basketball. Never bullied anyone, but I did put a few kids on thier ass and got it a couple times myself. They are physical contests. I liked to play sports not watch on tv.

I was bullied after a Baseball game once by a kid who was an actuall neighborhood bully, his cousin and his friend for no reason in paticular other than they didn’t like me when they were in a group. Individually we were cool although I didn’t know the cousin that well, but had hung out with the other two on and off for years.

Luckily for me the Umpire was going to make a head call and eye balled the situation. He calmly walked over explained to the three of them that they would fight me one at a time under his supervision. And asked me if that was ok. It was enough to get me to fight the bully with some confidence since I wasn’t really mad or liked to fight. I won the fight and found to my surprise I was willing for more. Of course as we see above it only took one and they were done.

Same stuff happened to me when I was a kid. My dad made me fight the kid. I fought him. I made him bleed. I won. I walked back inside the house and cried. I was never bullied again.

In my book he’d still be a hero. I was bullied by older kids most of my childhood. I hated them. I grew up, got a college degree had military service in Vietnam, got a Bronze Star. Most of my detractors avoided military service, cowards that they were. I am confident now that I could handle my former tormenters now. Happily nearly all of them are already dead due to their poor self-care as adults. I’d love to defecate on their graves but I’m afraid I’d catch a cold.

I did read the article – I am not like most that take everything we see on the net as truth. MSM has taught me this. Everything is hear say unless you were there. I was not there, the article states he was bullied his whole life there and he finally broke out. Violence with Violence is still the wrong medicine. There is self defense and then there is rage. This child was powered by rage and hatred to the actions of the mislead smaller child. This is why I commented why so much hatred, focused at both parties involved in the altercation.

When I was 7 years old, I lost my eye to a horse accident and had to be wrapped with gauze on half my face. This lasted even into going back to school. So I was bullied and ridiculed for my half gauze face. I was pushed, shoved into lockers, tripped to floors, etc… Hell – at 7 yrs of age this was a lot to deal with and remember many times getting off the buss in full tears to my Mother. She was very helpful with my time dealing with this and explained the facts of life, people have discomfort with that they cannot control or understand. They are not comfortable with them selves or had problems with bulling when they were younger – they are taking this out on you. At 7 yrs of age it was hard to completely understand, but as I developed with my new condition of having one eye and fitted with an artificial eye – I had a great group of class mates that helped back the bully comments off. This hatred was washed away with friendship and comradery. So I fully understand the emotional part of bullies and their actions.

As for the whole rant/tangent with text messaging and other insults – I think this is disgusting.

People always have a lot to say – but actions speak louder than words. Actions make people react. Words only show you know how to talk and write.

This incident happened where I live in Australia & I can say in response to some comments that although Casey was suspended from school for 4 days so was the bully & his buddy that shot the video. Also the bullies mother did NOT defend her son, in an interview with a television reporter said ‘Her Son got what he deserved.” Also she would like HER son to APOLOGISE to Casey. Not the other way around.
I don’t care that people say Violence is not the answer but sometimes it is necessary to send a message to the bullies that enough is enough. So yes, Casey sent a message that he will not take any more abuse from this arrogant little prick. I bet no one will bully him anymore!

I was bullied in high school. The summer between my sophomore and junior year I grew 4 inches and gained 35 lbs. The first day of the new school year as I sit at my desk awaiting for class to start, a certain bully smacked me upside the back of the head and started laughing and calling me names. I calmly stood up to present my 6’3″ frame that now weighed 225lbs with about 7% body fat and informed the idiot that that was the last time he would ever hit anyone until he was out of school. I hit him square in the jaw knocking three teeth out and breaking his jaw. Yeah, I was arrested, but the prosecutor declined to press charges in light of the witness testimony and the arrest record was expunged at 18. I was a hero for two years! I graduated at 6’6″ tall and weighed 255lbs while bench pressing >400lbs. and squatting >600lbs. and played football on scholarship at an outstanding university. The moral of this is to teach kids a better self image where they don’t feel the need to put others down. If parents do that, kids like me wouldn’t have to break them in half when they cross the line.

I have never been in a case, or heard of one where the bully and school were not pronounced guilty and the cash money awarded to the victim. The schools only react when money is involved. I used to be bullied by another kid on the way home from school every afternoon. One afternoon, I decided that I had taken enough of this kid’s abuse. I didn’t “snap”. I made a concious decision to defend myself. This kid didn’t care that I had a stick in my hand. He was going to bully me anyway. So he got a surprise when I started beating the living crap out of him right there in the alley. He never bullied me again. Luckily, I was off of school property, so the school couldn’t do anything about the incident. And we never heard from the kid’s parents. Apparently, he bullied a lot of kids up until that day. Years later, after we’d grown up, I seen the guy again. He apologized for being so abusive during our childhood.

I got bullied in junior high so I began weight-lifting and learned fighting skills. Very few people bothered me but one guy in high school tried to bully me. He got a similar treatment, but it was during gym class so he landed on a wrestling mat. Nobody bothered me again. I am a very mild-mannered person who respects others. I got bullied for 2 years, like 15 people chasing me and stuff. One day I was fed up with it, hit a random one straight in the face, kicked the leader to the curve and made a little bitch out of him. Nothing ever happened again and I have never been in a fight ever since :)

I was a short weak fat kid in grade school and I and others of my geeks friends were bullied verbally AND physically. I learned a lesson from a bully one day. I sitting outside when I saw the bully, He came up to me and said watch this. Then he walked over to another boy and said hello, the other kid said hello and smiled, then Gary hit that boy-(victim) in the mouth and a gain in the nose. He left the kid crying and scared. then he came back to me and said “you know how I can do that?”, because I don’t care and it’s fun. I never turned my back on Gary again, but I learned something. “Hide in the weeds”. Surprise is a great weapon. This was in 6th grade. Most of us walk to school through a woods. One day, a Great DAY! My first reaction on watching the video was that the bully deserved what hed got. Even if that it right, the school — any school — has a fundamental obligation to protect students from anything that interferes with learning and student safety. That the School had allowed any student or students to bully Casey and get away with doing so is a prima facia violation of that basic duty. The student or students who bullied and taunted Casey should have been dealt with long before Casey snapped. If Casey caused significant injuries to the bully, it is appropriate that he should be suspended from school so that the situation can be dealt with, but the bullying student or students deserve suspension, too. Correction of deviant behavior ought to be at the core of all actions taken by the school, rather than punishment. Correction is positive and constructive, whereas punishment is negative and destructive.

My father’s reasoning was, to fight back is playing into the bully’s hand and that was what they wanted you to do. I went along with that reasoning and suffered for 4 years until just before I left school.

I had a similar breaking point to young Casey on one occasion when I was bullied by an ‘under bully’, one slightly lower on the pecking order within the bullying group. I just snapped and went berserk and gave the boy a good hiding. I have to confess, I felt wonderful! At last I had stood up for myself and solved the problem for good. To my great surprise, almost immediately things changed and the bullying stopped and the former bullies were slightly friendly towards me. This was a real turning point.

That was 40 years ago, I have a young son and daughter now and I just cannot subscribe to my father’s philosophy of becoming a passive target. My experience taught me that the way to stop a bully is to take direct and forceful action – and you will only have to do it once. I will be teaching them to avoid trouble if possible but stand their ground and fight decisively if they are picked on. I don’t want them to have to go through the dread I had when anticipating another day at school.

I’ve been where Casey is. Fat, bespectacled nerd in grammar school with a huge bulls-eye painted on my back., I once literally carried two of my tormentors to the principals office on my back and tearfully advised the shocked secretary that “…they were picking on me.”

I’m 35 now and when I was in jr high school (7-9 grades) I had a very similar problem. I fought back and was labeled the trouble maker even when I was the defender. I was suspended several times, even had to change schools. I eventually dropped out at age 16, left home and went to the city where I found drugs and more violence. I was hospitalized, jailed and sleeping in the open for years until I found my wife who saved me. We have been married 7 years and have 2 beautiful children. I worked as a laborer while learning heavy equipment operation and now I have my own excavating business. Super long story short – Help your son now and don’t let him go until you are sure he is ready – otherwise he can waste a lot of time dancing on the knife edge of drugs and violence. These childhood wounds run deep and will boil over eventually. Best wishes.

This is what happens when children get fed up! I also want to note that I believe this is a lucky case. Only God knows how many children are bullied all their lives and don’t have a chance or any strength or support to defend themselves. Victims for life! Sad. I was in your son’ situation almost 50 years ago in my country. The bully lived near to our home. He bullied almost every boys and sometimes girls in our neighborhood. I decided to fight back. He was scare of me. My dad was afraid of this boy and yelled at me when I was fighting him (he was much bigger than I), but I got suport from my mother . Every body in my neighbor knew this kid and all afraid of him. I decided to protect my friends as well after that incident. I’d hit him first every time I saw him in our neighborhood. He still bullied others when I was not there but he behaved better afterward. People in this country are making an excuse for those coward little monster that worsen the problem.

I was bullied by a kid, and I was the school bus DRIVER. This kid bullied other kids on the bus first so I had paperwork on writing him up. The mother came to talk to me one day instead of her kid getting on the bus, and of course, all the exact things the kid did on my bus, he told his mother that I did those things to the kids and him. Why? because at one point, the kid got in trouble from other things he did on the bus, so he tried to get his mother to bully me and the bus company by lying to his mother. She never got anywhere since I had the paperwork and after interviews with all the parents, all the managers at the company, and all the kids on the bus, she had no support on her side. Sure did make a big mess and take a lot of peoples time and money. Long story short, I didn’t get in trouble, and the kid & family moved.

I agree w/you Spirit. First thing I noticed was the size difference between these two kids. Casey is 16 and the other kid is only 12. The fact that Casey had enough strength to overpower him, lift him up, and then body slam him, means that he could have walked away with a lot less effort.

So one time new kid came to school and all local punks would get lunch money from many freshmen, and he payed. But then he count that he gives so much money that he could buy a bike in half year or full year. One time he gave this idea to other freshmens and seniors heard that and told him he aint making home that they would woup his ass to death, kid knew there was no justice from anyone, not from teachers cause its ussr and not from freshmens cause they are scared and seen other kids get their bones broken. so kid waited and look through the window after school and saw many ppl waiting for him. so he took his pencil, sharpened, and waited for many ppl to get to beat him and decide to prove a lesson…he made sure he looks scared so it takes only one senior to beat him, well when he got out two came up to him but he was very fast and poked guys eye with a pencil, then did the other, made kid blind, other guys took his buddy and all were shocked and called for help bout crazy kid. they called kid crazy but after year he had good grades and he explained: I knew if i wouldnt do it i still would get beat every day and give money away and been beaten to death cause i went against their gang. brave boy, i think some punks just need to be really dropped one day like this bacteria by a big boy.

i am about 5’2 and i have got picked on by taller kids i told my best friend he is 6’6 and beat the crap out of the bully he did not get suspended cause he was not on school property. But my point is that don’t be afraid to tell anyone about someone bullying . The kid that was bullying me was 5’12

Any violence in school is just not on, I was in a school where this type of thing happened daily – (I was on the bully side of things) so I did not get it too bad. There has to be a lot more to this story, although no matter what is behind this story, that skinny little runt deserved all he got and more. If someone had retaliated against me like that when I was the perpetrator of bullying, I would have matured a lot faster and I think I would have given up on my bullying ways immediately. Both parents of these kids need to have a serious discussion to ensure that it does not happen again, the little runts folks need to beat it into him if necessary, and the bigger kid needs to get his confidence levels up so that bullies leave him alone in the first place. Parents, make sure your boys are boys, capable of holding their own in these situations before it gets to a point where the kid snaps. If that slam dunk had been slightly to the left, the little runt might have had his skull cracked open and could have died from such a blow. Parents listen to your kids and make sure you control this behaviour, whichever side of the fence your kid is on.

What everyone who has written a comment on this incident is missing is one simple message-IT ALL STARTS AT HOME!  Too many parents are too busy working, partying, socialising or whatever, instead of teaching their kids to treat everyone equal, whether they are of a different race, whether they are gay or str8, fat or skinny, whatever it may be.  My mother always made sure I treated everyone equal, and learning to forgive those who did me wrong, and believe me, being tall and slim, I was abused and taunted, beaten alot. But I perservered and now I’m in my 60′s and I watch with great sadness at what goes on in this country now.  Also the courts are at fault, as you cannot spank a child, for that would be abuse- BUt many children are spoiled by not having to learn how to do math without a calculator, learn by reading and studying, not looking it up on a computer u have at school.  No wonder this country is in the shape it’s in.  I’m rather glad I won’t be around to see it destroy it self in the near future.!

         I myself was bullied all through high school…I am 30 now and once a sweet passive non violent person.  It seems like this is a pervasive thing all across america and australia apparently.   It has gotten worse since I was in school….no one ever helped me when I told a teacher….my mother came to my schools many times and nothing was ever done…infact the teachers would have “concerns” about me being a loner. The day I fought back then all the sudden there was a problem and I was expelled from school.  I firmly believe there is favortism for kids that are part of certain social strata.  To make a long comment short I thank god my mother took my side….if not for that I dont think i would be alive today

           When I was in middle school…before I started to fight back I was well aware of both parties getting suspended so I curled up and took it….I was still suspended over the zero tolerance policy that the school took….from then on i said fuck it

I don’t blame students who physically retaliate against bullies (especially if the bully doesn’t want to be reasoned with) in fact  and in my opinion it’s justifiable if the victim assaults the bully with reasonable force. I’m sure that with some bullies it’s their parents’ fault that their son and/or daughter are bullies which is why I have no sympathy for SOME parents who get blamed and in some cases even sued for the actions of their son and/or daughter’s bullying behavior.And even if some people may disagree but I choose not to blame students who disrespect or at least tell off school officials who have the nerve to protect bullies and punish victims.In fact if there is some law that’s “designed” to protect bullies and punish victims than such a law is stupid and unjust to the victims of bullying.Finally if a victim physically restrains a bully or bullies (whether it’s that Casey fellow or someone else) and the bully or bullies back off  than therefore I personally feel that the victim won’t need to hit and/or fight back the bully or bullies.

Being indifferent to wheover gets suspended and claiming that high school isn’t important are just as bad as punishing Casey for defending himself. The ones who should punished are Richard and Casey’s school administrators.
