Warren Buffett Discusses LeBron’s Free Agency With HuffPo (Video)

If there’s anyone qualified to break down the business aspects of LeBron James’ looming free agency decision, it’s Warren Buffett, the billionaire investor currently listed by Forbes as the world’s third-richest man. However, in an interview with the Huffington Post’s Willow Bay posted earlier today, Buffett said LeBron doesn’t need the help. (Yes, LeBron’s free agency has made it this far along the media spectrum.)

In fact, Buffett was very complimentary of LeBron in general, and seemed to know a fair amount about his business dealings, exemplified by him saying, “…and [LeBron's] got some good friends, incidentally…you know, like Maverick Carter.” It can’t be every near-octogenarian who’s familiar with LeBron’s close business associates, but as this photo proves, Buffett and Carter seem to get along rather well.

Now, LeBron and Buffett have a longstanding mutual admiration/friendship, so of course Buffett wouldn’t talk any trash, but we can’t help but feel he’s being overly kind when he says LeBron is “a lot more mature than I was” when Buffett was his age.

As far as maturity goes, this seems like a good time to point out once again that LeBron is hosting an hourlong special tonight to determine his free agency choice. Also, LeBron’s “global icon” quest – of which his friendship with Buffett is undoubtedly a part – doesn’t exactly suggest that he’s got his priorities in order. And compared with Buffett – a man more fabulously wealthy than LeBron could ever dream of being, yet who’s lived in the same modest Omaha house for decades – well, there is no comparison.

Watch Buffett be his usual charming self in the video below. Suddenly it seems like LeBron could use Buffett’s attitude toward life a lot more than he could use his financial advice.
